Getting out sutures

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

My goat that had the Csection needs her stitches out, I got most of them, but there are a few where when I pull they really get stuck. I am afraid of pulling them too hard and ripping something open on her. She is already sick to death of me coming at her with needles and ramming stuff down her throat, and taking her temp, etc. etc. Is there something I can spray on her belly to help the stitches come out more easily? Thanks!!

Try spraying an anti bacteria spray or use neosporum cream on the stitch and skin they go through.Wait a few minutes for the skin to absorb the spray and moisten up.They might pull out easier.

Make sure after you clip the suture your not pulling so as to pull the Knot thru the incision line. Don't laugh, I've seen all kinds of "medical Professionals" do it.

Doreen, John is right about the knot! Pull on the side the knot is on. I would try some normal saline poured or even peroxide poured on the area to soften it. You can make some normal saline by just boiling some water with salt in it.

saturate the stiches with hydrogen peroxide,, that will break up/loosen any blood thats holding them, thena quick pull , (in the correct direction) should do the trick
