NEW QUILT PROJECT

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Recently some of us on the Countryside Forum did a quilt square fabric swap. It was (and continues to be) a lot of fun. Some of us were also bemoaning the fact that we don't live close to any quilt groups to get to do their fun projects. We are wondering if anyone would be interested in a kind of quilt group project thing through the mail. Kristean Thompson and I are willing to co-ordinate.

Heres a project we thought of-though we are way open to suggestions comments and ideas. We would like to try a row swap. Heres how it works. Lets say we have 8 people. Each person does a row-either of blocks or a border. Then each person sends it to the next one- number one sends hers to number two, number two sends hers to number three and so forth. The last person, number eight sends hers to number one. We keep going until every one gets her (his) original row (now times 7) back. We are going to do something small like-a lap quilt size or wall hanging size. We thought to have a patriotic theme-red, white and blue, stars and stripes kind of thing. Wouldn't it be cool to have a Festive Patriotic wall hanging to hang up on the Fourth of July? Or a lap quilt -I know last forth of July I used a couple of lap throws while we were out watching fireworks in between rain showers!

If you are interested, let me or Kristean know by next Sunday Evening. Or maybe someone has a better idea?! If youve done this kind of thing before, I would LOVE your advice. If you want to do this, but your kind of shy about-hey, we can coach you through. I've done lots of quilting but I've never done a row exchange so this is new for me. But I bet it will be a lot of fun.

I forgot to mention that we will post this on a couple other forums as well, since we seem to like to travel back and forth.

Yehaaa... This is going to be fun. I posted here so others would have my email address. I look forward to working with Kelly. She is very sweet spirited and generous. I love the patriotic theme and cant wait to get it started. Looking forward to needleful days.. Kristean

Saw this on the Cooking and Crafts site and said to count in me. Never mind that I have a million things to do you had me as soon as you said it would have a patriotic theme. So count me in.

Kelly,

I would like to know more about the quilt project. Would we be doing actual quilting? I have done some, but am not an expert. Do you mean that we would each end up with a quilt? Email me if you'd like, Kelly. I may be interested. Thanks.
