Broken Canon Speedlite 299T

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

I have a Canon Speedlite 299T, which is a wonderful strobe for all the FD cameras, with a broken shoe. I dropped it while attached to the camera (a no-no, I know), and sheared off both sides of the shoe mount. I've had it to repair, and been told that the part is no longer available. I've taken it apart, and am down to the small threaded piece that the tightening ring sits on, and this is all I need to repair the strobe. My problem is I cannot got this part. Does anyone know a repair store which may have the part, or have a broken strobe which has this part on it? I would really like to get this strobe fixed, as everything else on it works won

You used the term shoe, which is on the camera or is it the foot on the bottom of the speedlite. I had a broken foot on a 188A and took it to Northwest camera repair and the put a new foot on it for about $25.00. Dont Know where you live but I would think a good camera repair shop would have one and its whole lot cheaper to repair ten to replace. Hope this helps.

I would like to thank those who answered me, especially Lynn Mann. He sent me the following:

here is the address and phone number, it would be best to call them to see if they DO have the part.Heres the lowdown

Northwest Camera Repair Inc. 5130 Evergreen Wy Everett, WA. 98203 425-252-0932

Not only do they have the foot for the 299T strobe, but they called me back after I had ordered it to ensure that they had the right strobe model number. I am thoroughly impressed with this site, and with Northwest Camera Repair. I look forward to having my strobe back together for the first time in five years soon.

Well, the strobe is back together and functioning, but not completely. I took the first photo with it, and look forward to having it completely fixed by the end of next month. There is a black wire which came loose, and I think that is the one which is causing the problem. The problem is that it doesn't notify the camera of the f-stop to use, nor does it send out it's IF signal to determine exposure from the camera. So, I hope to get those features back soon. Again, for those of you who helped, thank you.
