Congradulations and your new kids! I guess that most of us don't post the easy kiddings. Glad to hear good news! What lines are your Oberhasli goats?

The two Ober does I have are NOA (Native on Appearance) only. But I had them bred to a registered buck. I do not have a copy of his papers. Or even know what lines he comes from. But they are beautiful. I thought I was going to lose one - he looked squished somehow. I dosed them all with Survive!/nutridrench and was ready to weak kid syringe him but when I went back to the shed he was FINE. Whew! Guess he was just shagged out after a long squawk... :o> Do you have Obers?

Congrats Gailann, doesn't matter how long you are in goats, babies are always special. We were also holding our breath with all the weak and sick kids that were around us. We are fine! Vicki

Well my goats I have found out are not bred by the buck I had them with.Must have shot blanks.I guess I will be having summer kids- Yuck! But I know that old faithful will get the job done. This is the reason that I use to justify keeping an old buck around to my husband. Terry

Gailann, yes I have Obers and I just love them! So far I have 9 babies on the ground (2 are ober-d-alps hehe) and 3 more does due in the next 6 weeks. I did color code my collars so I can tell at a glance which kids are sisters and brothers. Since yours are recorded grades, did you get the ober color on your babies?

Color on Ober babies? Absolutely! One has a white spot on his forehead but other than that they are beautiful brown. Two are darker reddish brown and the other three are medium bay brown. Black bellies, black legs, all of it.... The Ober force is strong in these babies....

OOOPS. If anyone tried to e-mail me privately I think I inadvertently deleted their message... Sorry....

Congrats Gailann. Lots of luck. I am so glad you had a healthy and great delivery.

Gailann, thats wonderfull to get correct color on your kids. Your girls must have been out of "real" oberhasli stock. So many natives can't throw the correct color. Would love to see them. Do you have a picture?

-- shari (smillers@snowcrest.net), March 15, 2002.

I took pictures of the boy holding them, them sleeping on him, etc. I don't have properly "posed" pictures but will put some up ASAP. I have to find a scanner and then I absolutely will. Since both does had un-Ober parents on one side or the other, it amazes me that they persist on throwing Obers. Their Greatgrandaddy was full registered Ober but I don't know his lineage either. My goat breeder is unimpressed that he is still getting NOA Obers from his Alpine women. He dislikes Obers. I think they are just freshly made goat's milk ice cream (with chocolate sauce) on a hot day...

What part of the country do you live in? I have two Ober bucklings out of a Grand Champion Doe that are too nice to casterate.
