DVD and VCD players...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I sent a friend a movie in DVD format, however she has a VCD player, not a DVD player and is unable to play the DVD in a VCD player. Is there any way to burn the DVD into VCD format so she can watch the movie? Or is there another solution I am not aware of? The VCD player she has is a home stereo type unit.

I look forward to your reply,

Regards,

Scott Robinson

Yes, you can convert DVD to VCD. www.vcdhelp.com has some guides on doing this. If you're not real experienced at doing this kind of thing (and you probably aren't since you asked), you might want to consider visiting www.doom9.net. Check out section called "The Guides" and look for guide on making VCD/SVCD using the DVDX program. It's pretty easy to use, although if you want to get better quality, using TMPGenc as explained at VCDhelp is a better choice. TMPGenc requires you to do a lot more yourself, whereas DVDX is a bit less hands-on. You should also be aware that if your friend's VCD player does not support CD-R or CD-RW media, she will not be able to play what you make for her.
