greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi all I have a old long chest type freezer and wanting a cold frame-- so can I remove the motor and lid put glass or something like plastic tin like stuff on the top and make a cold frame out of it of course I'd have to get some steps to be able to reach done to the bottom hopfully without falling in... God what a story that would be : ) Or do you have a better idea for it ...???

You need to remove the coils as well as the motor. They have freon in them, which is poisonous. Put rocks or sand in the bottom to about a foot and a half from the top and cover those with a layer of newspaper. Fill with good dirt, compost, and sphagnum peat moss. Put glass in the top and you're ready to plant.

Another use would be to make it into a smoker.
