as far as the lens is for canon EOS bodies, especially compactible with EOS 300, it should work. but don't expect it to work on any EOS body.

Why do you think the noted Tamron lens will not work on some EOS bodies, sajeev, when you think that it should work for EOS 300! This tamron works for almost all EOS bodies, anybody with different opinion?

Sajeev, we should be very cautious when passing info to our fellow people. Otherwise the starters get confused, you know!

Never mind, thanks - Minhaj

minhaj, i never said that it won't work. but i said expect it to work on all EOS bodies. if you are interested in knowing more you can go through this thread on this forum. it has some example of in-compactibility of third party lenses.

David,

I think you have two concerns here, sorry last time I actually did not answer you. However, according to my reading your concerns are: #1. If the above combo is fully functional and #2. It's performance.

Yes Canon EOS 300 + Tamron AF 28-200 XR do work fine without least problem. Pls note that Tamron was the pioneer in superzoom arena and this particular lens is just fine. I have a 20 years old short range tamron zoom and it still gives me good result.

David, all third party lenses are usually OK in terms of downward compatibility, pls note it carefully, i.e. the date a third party lens is manufactured it fits with designated camera models which were designed/manufactured prior to it. Since most 3rd party lens manufacturers design individually, camera designers does not care for their layout at the time of designing new models hence mis-match arises. As an example, new Canon EOS 30/Elan 7e does not function properly with Sigma lenses.

I tell you what, it could happen for any designer/manufacturer only this time it's Sigma. However, good news is Sigma offers free of Charge mod for their lenses for the EOS 30/Elan 7e owners.

Other than the above there are few more areas to boot. Certain model AF cameras needs specific f/stop for focusing properly such as EOS 30/Elan 7e will not focus untill the lens's max f/stop is 5.6.

David, lens compatibility is a discipline itself and it takes time to cover. I suggest you as my fellow photo hobbyist not to worry much about this compatibility rather you go ahead with your above choice. You will learn automatically down the road, no problem.

ANOTHER POINT, YOUR GEAR IS NOT VERY IMPOTANT IN CREATING A GOOD IMAGE. IT IS YOU UNDER THE SUN WHO IS MOST IMPOTANT. SO IMPOTANT IS IMAGING IMAGES.

Happy shooting. -Minhaj.
