Depends on where you live. In North America, Sony DVD players have tended to fall into 2 categories - 1) players that supposedly do not support CD-R and CD-RW, but will in fact play most CD-RW discs and the Prime Peripherals brand CD-R. These players will play VCD and SVCD. You can buy Prime Peripherals brand CD-Rs at Office Max. 2) players that do support CD-R and CD-RW. These will play just about any brand of burnable media. They will play VCD but not SVCD. I don't know anything about Sony model numbers, but I know several people who have Sony players and I speak from personal experience in what I said above. Look at your owners manual and see if it says if it supports CD-R. If it does, then you have what I call a "type 2" player and you should be able to use any brand of CD-R you want, although I will warn you that cheap, no name brands sometimes cause problems on players.
