Looking for links on DIY Earthen Pond/Dam design and construction

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We are planning to build an earthen pond in front of our home. The topography makes it an ideal location.

Since we're going to build it over the summer ourselves, we want to do as much research on design and construction (especially the dam) beforehand.

I've done some searches via Google, but found mostly commercial sites or pictures of existing ponds.

Do any of you have any links to sites that address engineering a pond (specifically design and construction).

Thanks in advance,

Rudy

Might take a look at these links:

Call the soil conservation people in your area, they will free of charge come out and tell you where it would be best, if its possible, the problems if any you might expect and tell you how high to build your dam. If you do it to their specifiactions you will be clear if the dam fails and causes damage to other people's property. I did it several years ago and have been completely happy. You are paying their salary with your tax money and they are nice people to deal with. Good luck David
