$2.00 Chicken Tractorgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I'm just tickeled pink with myself. I built my first chicken tractor this weekend and it cost me less than $2.00. I used pallets from Lowes, the chicken wire was given to me by a friend that doesn't have chickens anymore and the labor, though hard (mine), was cheap. Only thing I had to pay for was the nails. My DH and son didn't think I could do it, but I proved them wrong. Now I'll start working on a duck house (still have those 15 ducks and 60 chicks in my spare room). I just love this stuff !!!

Congrats. We have 2 chicken tractors. One is 4 x 12 and the other is 4 x 8. We have 9 chickens in the bigger one and 5 in the other one. We love our chicken tractors. We also let the chickies out every afternoon for about 4 hours.I just have to get hubby to build that turkey pen now as they will be here next month.

Lesa, Congratulations! Doesn't it feel good when you pull off something like that?I use pallets in our fenced area where the chickens free range. By leaning two together and tying them at the top it makes a sort of A- frame that gives the free range chickens some protection in the open field. We have two of these pallet structures in the field and the hens will run under when a hawk flies over.

Hi Lesa, we have a chicken tractor too built out of pallets. It works great, especially when we have a new mamma and she needs a special place for her and her chicks. We just move her a little each day and her chicks always have a nice green and clean place to grow. Enjoy! Hey, what part of VA are you in? I'm in S. Central.
