Is this prolapse??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

My doe who had the c section has a very swollen vulva. This doesn't seem too actually fit the descriptions of prolapse I have encountered, but it's worrisome. The swelling is out just about 1 1/4 inch. She was pretty traumatized by both the vet and I going in to try to help out. What do you think? The vet said it didn't sound like prolapse to him, but he is used to cattle. Thanks much!!

Doesn't sound like anything but swollen vulva to me. Believe me, prolapse is something that you will know instantly when you see it. It is not swelling it is inside out uterus. I have only had it once and it was awful!!! Kind of looks like the smooth side of the placenta.

Doreen, my tiny nigerian doe delivered a rough birth of stillborn triplets about a month ago. For two weeks she had a very swollen vulva, exactly like you describe. I was worried too, until I spoke with other breeders who put me at ease. I think she'll be okay.

It definitely was just swollen from trauma. A friend who had bad hemorroids during her last pregnancy told me to try some Witch Hazel and would you believe the swelling went down tremendously inside of 2 hours! Very impressive. Thanks for the help, I didn't think it really was prolapse, but have never seen such swelling before. Glad to see it go down to next to nothing.

Yes, I'll remember that too, and will pass the news on to my midwife!
