My first baby is here!

I'm so excited!!! One of the wild girls (boer/nubian) had a big brown buckling at about midnight last night! He is cute as a bug and doing great :) Mom has not tamed down right after kidding as I was promised though, lol.

I would like to start milking her in a few weeks, but I don't know that I can get her on the darn milk stand....any ideas? They will eat out of my hands, but touching them....forget it!

When I came out, the other doe was literally "tits up" in the middle of the pen!!! Scared me to death, I thought she was dead! She was beached I grabbed her legs and flipped her over, she got up (glared at me for touching her) and staggered off. Seems to be ok, she was definitely in labor last night, but seems to have just stopped??? Is that normal? She was never pushing or anything, just pawing, grunting a bit and looking pretty miserable. I sure hope there is more than one baby in there, she looks like she swallowed a 20 pound watermelon!

Just had to share with people who don't think it is weird to be excited about goat babies, lol!

Tracy, congradulations on your first baby this year. I would get her on the stand asap so that she knows that this is what happens after having a kid. If you wait it will be harder to train her. Good luck.

Tracy, I would check that other doe. She might be in trouble. If nothing else, check her ligaments to see if they are soft or can't feel them. Often a doe will not really push much when a person is there if they are not comfortable in your prescense. I have seen does that had the feet protruding, heard people coming, and just stopped, and stayed stopped for a good half hour before I finally pulled the kids!

Congratulations!!! the way hey calm down is for you to be therre with them at the roughest time and get all messy with 'em. Then you smell like one of them for awhile and can get closer to them. If I were you, I would take the kid and pen him close by and use him as bait on her. She might get testy with you, but if you have someone to help you should be able tto do it without too much trouble. that way you can be the hostage taker that the victim falls in love with...and they all live happily ever after....:). I have a weird sense of humor. have fun!

I've been checking the other doe almost every hour and nothing :(

I have never seen any discharge at all from her vagina....she is alert, happy, eating lots...but no more labor looking signs.

The babies look like they are still down in her sides.

Do I worry yet?

I actually did get to squeeze the doe's teats and run my hands down her sides while I was holding her baby hostage in my lap

Probably a good thing that she doesn't feel confident enough to knock me over, lol

How's that other doe? Hopefully you have kids on the ground from her by now:).

The hostage taking will work for you, but it may take some time. If the doe has a collar on that would be a boon!

Not a thing from that other doe yet :((((

She seems perfectly content. I think they are amusing themselves watching me run out every hour She's as big as a volkswagon, I can't imagine she can hold out much longer....

And yes, both of them have collers on, getting them there was quite a rodeo though!

the only way i have Ever gotten a doe to calm down was to start , from minute one that they are in my possession, no matter what age is to let them know in No uncertain terms , the only ONLY place in the whole farm you can get that yummy yummy grain , is on the milk stand , with your head locked in place......i would start that with her, the first few times it will be hairy....more for you than her... but get her on the stand , and give her her grain....eventually you may end up with a good goat...i dont know .. the boers seem to have a wild hair in them... but , they usually come around . mine did
