6-1, Owen scores 2 hat tricks and Dabz is sent off...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Morning swifty.............goodbye. I'll be here until kickoff time then it is off for a self imposed exile until i get home where I can watch the game unfettered.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

alright, syme, it's gonna be a tough afternoon, or morning :-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ah Swift, you're thinking along the same lines as me. As long as we accept the mauling now, there's no need for butterflies.

BTW, I reserve the right to change my mind and turn into a whimpering, nail-biting, bundle of nerves in about 5hrs. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

My nerves have evaporated. I'm expecting a loss, possibly a drubbing so nothing can hurt me now.

I'll no doubt be back in full sh*tting bricks mode at tea time, though.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Must admit that I am feeling a tad bit uneasy about tonight but also looking forward to watching the game. Lets hope that Chewsee and Leeds dont win this evening!! Great to see that the villa lost yesterday as that would have put them in with a shout for the european places!! AM

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!!! 2 - 3 with a Shearer hat trick (third one scored in injury time) would be nice.{%o) (that`s my cockeyed optimist emoticon!) Okay, I`ll go and take my tablets and lie down. Nurse!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

3-1 to us.... Shearer (pen) Cort and Jenas. HOWAY!!! BEAT the bloody scouser scum already!!!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

My forecast is 1-1 (Shearer). I'd be happy with that.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Well it's 4.09 and I'm setting off for Liverpool in about an hour and a half. I am very nervous! Stomach churning, butterflies, off my food, all the usual stuff.

Look forward to reading the match thread on my return.

Howay the lads!!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Cracking 2-2 draw, with Jenas getting his first for us (that'll stop you all thinking I don't like him :-) ), and O'Brien the 2nd.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I'm watching this with Swift at a mates house. Pub too tense for me... I'm normally screwed up enough pre-match without Scouse 'comedians' adding to my pain.

I have contracted Dougal's inability to be optimistic, although for me it only kicks in 24hrs before a game.

The rest of the time I'm fine, honest...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

For some reason, had no expectation of getting anything out of the Arsenal match last Saturday - and feel the same way about tonight. That TV footage of Keegan sinking behind the Anfield advertising hoarding keeps popping up in my mind every time we play there. So it would be fantastic if we could get even a point out of the game this evening. And a win would be one of the results of the season - and really set us up to stuff the Henry-less Arsenal in the Cup on Saturday. Now that's a game I think we can win.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bubble burst mode just kicking in, going full hole by about ten tonight, but a draw if we're lucky.

Can't see how Henry being missing for the cup game will be any more noticeable than it was last weekend.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

In-laws over for dinner. I'm quite pissed already. We had some russian pasta and stolichnaya. A theme night, you see. Not worried about the match. If we score a goal, I'm alright.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Henry will be playing against us on Saturday, in some ways it's better.

I reckon tonight has a 2-2 written all over it.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

We will win

HOWAY!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

NEWCASTLE NEWCASTLE NEWCASTLE......NEWCASTLE NEWCASTLE NEWCASTLLLLLLLLE!!! (:O)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I'll go along with Paul's 2-2 (unless Owen has yet another field day agst. Dabs & Co.), at my most optimistic 2-3 (their defence is good, big and strong).

A repeat of our score at Highbury (Dec.'01) would really put us back in the running ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Scousers at work all reckon easy home win

Owen and all that

Arsenal fans want us - not even a draw. Thy hate Liverpool and would rather us win the league than others if someone was to other than them.

He bound to score so it depends on Nobby and Robert exerting some pressure and giving Cort and Shearer some chances...against a mean defence.

Anything is a plus.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Too much is being made of Owen, fair enough he is an outstanding talent but if we overcompensate for him then we are just leaving ourselves open to humiliation by either Anelka or heskey. No one is giving us a chance, therefore a win is on the cards. Liverpool have to come forward which suits us better anyway. If we win this tonight then I predict we won't lose again this season. We won't win every game but we won't get beat, well maybe only once or twice alright outside of getting beat every week we wont get lose tonight.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

...and, of course, they re-played the Keegan / hoarding moment within seconds of the start of the Sky Sports coverage!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Oh bollox. I can't stand it. I wish it would just kick off and be done.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I am a bit concerned to learn that we have a cunning plan to deal with Owen. The last time we had a cunning plan, it involved Poyet...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Just got the team off Sporting Life:

Newcastle: Given, Hughes, O'Brien, Dabizas, Distin, Solano, Jenas, Speed, Robert, Shearer, Cort.

Subs: Harper, Elliott, Acuna, Ameobi, Bernard.

Glad Bernard's on the bench - gives us an option of the left.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bit harsh to leave Shola completely out of the reckoning. Gutted that Dabs is playing. This isn't traditionally a great fixture for NTG.

Actually, on paper, that doesn't that look too bad a team.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Also, if Hughes is carrying an injury, I'd have thought Griff might have made a better sub than Elliott .since Bernard can just about play at LB)>

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

PPS. Sorry, I meant leaving Lua out seemed harsh.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Any commentary from those with tv and/or webcast access will be much appreciated. This midweek games are doubly nerve-wracking when stuck behind the silence of a firewall.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ciara, I;m going to listen to Metro so I'll keep you posted.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I've got it on TV here Ciara, kick off in ~10 mins. [= 4am. here in Singapore :-( ]

No Oz boys on the match thread?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Thank you! :-)

My nerves are beginning now. How bout everyone else?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Is the webcast on ???

and has BBC five live the rights to broadcast via internet ??

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Floodlights have failed...just before teams were due out...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I can't get the webcast working - it switches on and the clock starts counting, but there's no sound.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Big Al's playing his 300th. PL game tonite.

Floodlights oot...Asian betting syndicates, I'll be on the blower...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I've switched on good old fashioned Radio 5 and they can't get their transmission working either. Something strange going on. News blackout.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

As long as the clock is counting, leave it on. They just haven't connected to the SJP feed yet.

Vatos, no 5 Live does not have internet broadcast rights for premiership or FAC matches, so no use going there.

And...unless they've changed policy, Liverpool charges a subs fee to listen to their webcast so that's also useless. :-(

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Any news of how long the match will be delayed?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Morning everyone 5 am and I'm rather tired. Bud, do you know if any Malaysian bookies predicted the score at 8:15 to be 0-0??

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

So that explains it - not just a news blackout a floodlights blackout. Local power cut would affect radio transmisions too. So it's going to be a long night.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Cr@p....was already going to be here past my normal quitting time and now even longer with the delay. grrr. Then again if the delay is lengthy enough I might just be able to make it home in time to hear the 2nd half. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

8.20 kick off; and the webcast is coming throughwith adverts for local careers centre

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ref Jeff Winter has told Sky Sports that he's looking for an 8.20pm kick off - when the emergency generator should kick in. But he's also talking about the poss of the game being cancelled if there's a much longer delay. Power is on outside the ground - so it's the old story of just the game itself being in the dark.

Liverpool chief exec Rick Parry says they're trying to isolate the cause of the prob. If not, they will power up the emergency generator. He seems pretty optimistic that it'll be OK.

Perhaps Carl Cort's missus has tried to use her store card in the Anfield club shop?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

kick off has been delayed till 8:30 GMT - I should go back to bed

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

At least 15 minutes delay according to Sky.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Kegsy, I think they have to play 45 mins. for the result (0-0) to count?

Where's Jeff Winter from, not a Mackem is he (being interviewed now)?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

No goals anywhere yet, but Roy Keane nearly scored. Now they say 8.30 ko

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sorry Kegsy. 30 minutes!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

1-0 to Chelsea by Melchiot then Fulham got a penalty straight away Saha just scored 1-1. Good old Fulham

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Winter is from Stockton.

Half hour would be a good delay. Might see if I can sneak out a bit early(didn't really take a lunch break today) and get home in time to hear some of the match.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

my parents (val and fifties fan) think its the powers of darkness (aka claudia). they think ive hacked the computer system of the main grid and conviniently arranged this black out. how could they..... anyone taking bets on whether the game will resume at all tonight. i think it will. :) fingers crossed.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ah ha! So is this part of YBR's cunning plan to throw off Liverpool's concentration? ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Jeff Winter is from Stockton I think. The only two times I've seen him ref he was biased against us first time (Man Uaway - Dabs sent off), and relatively biased towatds us (Leeds away - all 50/50 went our way).

Let's hope he's massively biased towards us today

I presume you can put some money down at the bookies and say ' I bet the score is 0-0 at 8:25 GMT'

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Rotten luck for our 3000 supporters if it's postponed. Wasn't Macbeth taking his son to his first away game too? Hope it's on for them. And that the trains run OK.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ciara, I don't know whether you saw the interview with Winter in the Ronnie talking with affection about his days on the stands at Ayresome Park abusing referees...came across as an OK bloke in all honesty.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Didn't see that, but heard him on some radio chat show last year. He did actually come across well. I reckon most refs are pretty decent guys if you speak to them off the pitch.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

excellent! I always thought if we can hold out for the first 20mins then we'd win!!! ;-))

HOWAY!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Saha just converted a penalty to bring Fulham level!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Lights are on - players coming soon

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sporting life says power is on in the stands, it's onle the pitch in darkness.

I say we should play anyway. Might help us if YMO can't see the ball when Dabs plays it into his path. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

This is probably a bad admission but I can't hear of a power failure at a match without thinking about Malaysian betting syndicates.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Did you hear Al snoring in the background while Winter was being interviewed?? Last thing Winter said was " .. and tell Alan Shearer to stop throwing things at me"

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Beckham scored 1-0 v Tottenham

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Man Utd 1 up and Troyes, too, if you're interested...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

If it's bad, Dougal, then I'm also a sinner. It was the first thing I thought of too.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Exactly my thoughts dougal... though they usually wait till the game has kicked off!

I'd like it postponed. I'd rather play them with Bellamy and Dyer

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Good old Troyes. They've got Troyes weather at Anfield tonight.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Come on you spurs!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Dougal, see Bud's ad my posts above. You're not the only one. Personally I don't care if they did, I just wished they'd let me know so I could have got an extra 30 mins in bed

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

bah...Chewsee have scored again. 2-1

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Chelsea 2-1 now. Only 8 points behind us now.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

By the way, have you seen their team? Owen, Heskey and Anelka playing. Still at least we've got Dabs.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

see, it wasnt me.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Floodlights are on and the players are coming out.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Well, they've obviously identified our weak link with that line-up..

On Brookside, Jimmy Corkhill has just announced that he is leaving the Mersey, that "Pool of misery" (his words) as he has no prospects and is going to settle down in Geordieland.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

They are using the emergency generator - if that fails the game will be abandoned. Joy.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ooh, Southampton beating Boro...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

It's raining too...

Asian wetting syndicates?

;7)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Still at least we've got Dabs.

And this is supposed to make us feel better how......? ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

There's a bright side to everything Ciara, you just have to look really really hard

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

That's a bit too hard for me, I'm afraid. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Fox Sports World are showing great imagination. They are showing the rules of rugby

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

LOL, Floridian.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

It's all happening in France, apart from Guincamp and Troyes, it's all 0-0 at HT. PSG beat Bastia eralier today, though but...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Corner to us after a Distin cross

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Game on. Liverpool attack Given save from Owen. Newcastle attack we have a corner

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

EEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Commence nail biting...

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Leeds v Ipswich still 0-0 at HT.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

If there was anything more plausible than the Vicar of Dibley on the telly, I might have taken a break from it all....

ER's on at 9, though..

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

What does that "EEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!" mean dougal, you're making me nervous???

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sounds fairly even so far Owen races through but Distin tackles

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ohhh...I like Vicar of Dibley! Wouldn't be able to watch it if there was a chance of listening to our match, though. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Liverpool had a great attack through the middle.

Scaring YOU? I nearly needed to avail myself of the incontinence drawers from the Sunderland game..

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Anelka through crosses towards Owen but Hughes cuts it out. Now Heskey muffs it, pressure

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

we haven't started well. Both Owen and Heskey have gone down in the box in the past 30 seconds. No penalty and no yellow for diving.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

If Liverpool can just wear themselves out now..

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ciara, I don't mind the V of D, but most of the episodes have been on about 50 times so I know the dialogue by now.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

ohh lordy....sports.com saying O'Brien mistake gave the ball to Owen. Love ya, Andy, but PLEASE don't take any advice on defending from Dabs.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Just saw the replay - Owen should have been nooked for the most blatant dive.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Loud crowd. Penalty claim by Owen. Dismissed. NUFC breakaway near miss. Now Anelka at other end save by distin. Jenas runs through Robert shot side netting. It sounds like watching Wimbledon (tennis I mean)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

What, St Michael of Owen diving?

Never, I tell you..

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Oh, so it's not a new one? I can understand that. I loved Father Ted when it was on here, but can't bear to watch anymore as they've repeated the same 6 eps about 382824523423 times.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Jenas' distribution has been excellent. Give the ball to wor young un, not there's.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Mebbes if they run themselves out now and we keep it to 0-0, we can throw Bernard on in the 2nd half to conjure a winning goal for us.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Calmed down a bit. Cort chance. Distin keeps Owen out. Must be a good game for neutrals as they say. Good passing move Shearer Solano Jenas Distin Hughes then went astray. Seems like the wind is behind us, according to commentator

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Tarricho sent off at OT and VN has made it 2-0

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sounding good from the comments you all are providing so far. :-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

well after 16 years of extremely bad chinese television im still seeing all new episodes of everything! very rip van winkle-esque

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Near miss for Speed left footed. Sounds like we're in their half a fair proportion of the time. Laurent Robert running at the Liverpool defence a lot.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Don't tell the scousers, but we are starting to get into this game, creating chances etc. We look alright until we give the ball to those in red. Dangerous f-k at the edge of the box to them

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

AO'B gave ball to Heskey. Fluffed it

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Van the Horse, hotly disputed penalty :-(

I've a feeling my 'live TV' is not that live, you guys are ahead of me (not for the first time this season)! :-(

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Know what you mean, Claudia. The US is usually minimum 1-2 yrs behind on British shows. Always exciting when I'm over there and can see the future. :-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ciara, the Father Ted thing depresses me, too. A work of comic genius that has been overfed to us like Christmas turkey. I don't know why the TV networks can't see this.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Howay lads!!! Keep it going!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Free kick Riise against wall Solano clears Speed break Jenas getting lots of mentions Owen hit post Hmmmmm

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sounds like O'B is panicking a bit...which isn't like him.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Anelka hit the post/bar (although tipped by Shay!.

Speed's shot was miles over, who said it was a near miss?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

They seem to be creating the clear cut chances.

How long have we been playing?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

It's now all the scousers, we are getting stretched massively at the back. Anelka hit the bar and has now just put it wide.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Distin doing well. Anelka huustles Jenas off ball. Anelka shoots over crossbar when free. But he was offside they say

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

20 mins Dougal

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bollox. If they score, I can't see us retrieving the situation as per SJP in the autumn.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sven G E is watching.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Must be a good game to watch

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Oh well, apart from JJ, there's no England interest to distract us.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

O'Brien lucky not to get booked. Tackle from behind on the little shit.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Must be a good game to watch Distin doing well. O Brien tackles MO from behind

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Oh for a Robert free kick from about, well, any distance, out.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Did he at least hobble the little sh*te enough to take him out the rest of tonight's match? At least make it count, yanno. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Problem is, Winter will probably have OB's card marked now. He'll have to be careful.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Leeds 1 up

Fowler

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

That's what the Leeds fans were saying about Mills kicking Bellamy, Ciara... ;)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Take your pick (as in pick your nose). some canny honks (not hunks ladies) on display, Didi Hammann, Andy O'B., Phil Thompson ;-)

;7)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Solano breakaway. Cort crosses. Now Riise attack, Hughes tackle. Speed hamstring. Looks bad Acuna coming on

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Hmph. Leeds scored. 1-0

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bollox re Leeds.

Separately, Ipswich do seem to have lost a bit of their momentum. I hope they pull it back together after next Saturday.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I think they should start tonight and have a dip in form next Saturday. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Heskey header Shay saves Speed still on

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

God this is scary.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Shit re Speed. Our midfield against Arsenal is going to be Acuna and McClen.

Mebbes we should have held onto Rob Lee. Although he's injured too, I believe.

Luck..where art thou?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Speed thumbs up to robson - he's staying on. We can't afford to have no Speed Dyer or Jenas against Arsenal

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ooh, Troyes are now 2-0 up. Howays les lads.

HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

See...and I was trying so hard not to panic about Saturday until at least...erm, later tonight.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Robert did OK there but final ball got away

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

God, this is stressful. In fairness, 'Pool are sounding the better side just now.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Robert sounds as though he's having a decent game actually.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

TOON TOON BLACK AND WHITE ARMY

TOON TOON BLACK AND WHITE ARMY

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

massive scramble in our boxfinally cleared. Given caught Anelka who went down like he'd been shot - no penalty. I think I'm going back to bed

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Anelka cross O'Brien intercept and out. Corner Shearer heads it out. 2nd corner scrambled away O'Brien/Shearer final clearance. No penalty but the crowd and Anelka not happy.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Kegsy, have any of these fallings down actually been penalties in your opinion?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

We aren't trying to hang on for a draw are we? Heart attack central!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Is it right that if the floodlights go out after 45 minutes then the score stands? Heartstopping stuff. Jenas good run.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Shit shit shit

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

It's true: the Toon and draws just do not mix.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Liverpool Murphy 1-0

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Dreadful defending Anelka knocked the ball across no one near it, Murphy stormed into the box, unmarked and blasted it home. SHIT SHIT SHIT. We are not going to get back into this game

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Quite lucky, 'cos Anelka's playing $h!te, wor defence are way too slow :-(

Murphy's scoring all the big goals :-(

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

blast!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I don't see how we can Kegsy. Bastard Murphy scored at SJP, too.

BOLLOX. We were holding out all right just there.

The important thing is not to panic and let the floodgates open.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Dougal RE penalties - no, I don't think so. Each one of the Liverpool front three have gone down, and they've all gone down easily and at least Owen should have been booked.

Free kick to us at the edge - come on Robert

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I don't think Carl cort's done much so far has he? Sounds as if Anelka is playing really well

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

True, Dougal. We are still capable of scoring. Cmon lads, don't let your heads drop!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Solano took it, but it hit Shearer on the way in and rolled harmlessly wide.

Boro equalised but now down to 10 men

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Solano free kick deflected almost into Cort's path

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Acuna coming on for Speed

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Acuna for Speed, wow cr@p for $h!te (IMHO)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Robert nutmegs Hamman, then shot but weak

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Robert nutmegs Hamman, then shot but weak Acuna on Speed off

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Jenas just bundled over by Heskey after he went past Heskey and Riise twice. He was taking the piss.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Wise move. No sense making Speeds injury even worse if there's any chance of him recovering for Saturday.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Acuna put it over from 4 yards. Good f-k in and they couldn't clear, came back to Acuna who was off balance and put it over

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Acuna, over the bar from under the bar :-(

Was a right, re. cr@p, I (actually) hope not?!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Jenas great run. Wins free kick 1 yard out of box. Good try nearly in rebound Acuna just over

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

The thing about Acuna is that he periodically compensates for his shiteness by scoring. Here's hoping.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Man, I cannot wait to see Jenas play a full match. Sounds an exciting player.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Exactly, Dougal! This would be a good night to get one of those headers, Clarence. :-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Only just read about Acuna's antics re over the bar. Perhaps he isn't going to compensate for his crapness by scoring.

Howay, is it HT yet? We need to regroup.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Hmmm...from sports.com:

Acuan misses two gilt-edged chances in a goalmouth scramble following the free-kick. The last is the worst, blasting over from just three yards out at the centre of goal

See...if we'd only put Acuna on, he'd have headed that one in! ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Another great run by Jenas. Can't wait to see him play with Dyre. And you know what, he must be in with an outside bet of coming to see me in the summer

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Jenas doing really well good attack Cort shot wide

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Thing is, you know, we aren't going to get chances like that very often in this game.

My water tells me that this ain't going to be our night.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

To be fair to Acuna, he was leaning back, off balance and had to snap at his shot. It was the 6 yard box FFS, you hardly get a lot of time in there. Everyone has missed chances like that.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Actually, that's a vague memory of Cort: needs about 5 chances to score, too.

I would love JJ to score. Sounds like he really deserves it.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Hamman firce shot saved well by Given.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Kegsy, you're right but the problem is, you don't get many chances like that against Liverpool so it may be a miss that we rue.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Surely it's HT?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

That's true. I would be gutted if I had missed ithat but it wasn't that easy.

H-T, come on Bobby, light the rocket

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sounds like Given is having anothet MOTM performance, keeping us in it.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Liverpool corner. Given punch. Smicer miss. Half time. Sounds as if we've been in lots of pressure but done pretty well and had a few good chances ourselves too. Still hope fotr the 2nd half

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Right then... They are really good going forward but we've mainly coped. We are losing it in midfield where we are giving the ball away easily

Cort's first touch has been great... his subsequent touches have been pants. I'd have Ameobi on NOW!

We loko totally disorganised at the backto midfield.

We have had our chances tho

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Not many changes that we can make as far as I can see.

Just hope that someone has on their shooting boots in the second half. It would be ace if JJ scored. Robert sounds as though he's having one of his better games, too.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Well, we've come from behind before, I can't see Cort or Acuna doing much in the second half, we're having to 'carry' too many 'players'.

Sure hope I'm made to eat my words :-(

Ar$enal game déjà vu? :-(

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Any merit in Bernard for Robert and Robert for Cort?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

So counting yesterday and today's games we're the only one of the Top 6 not winning. Not good. Things can change in the 2nd half. Fulham and Ipswich fightbacks - unlikely but hope springs eternal. Also there've been no yellow cards have there? And if that "results stands after 45 minute floodlight failure rule" is right, then we don't want any of that do we?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I'm trying the 2nd half with beer instead of wine.. usually works!

We can still win this. If we steady the ship and get a goal in the 1st 10mins of the second half I reckon they'll start hoying the kitchen sink at us,we'll hold out and nick it.

Did I mention Robert is shite? No. Ok... Robert is shite .. there

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Thing is, Liverpool can shut up shop now if they want too and I don't think we have anything special to unlock them.

Set pieces are our hope.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Ha Ha Saha 2-2 !!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Fulham 2-2

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Things starting to go our way?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

actually he did put one dead ball in that was OK.

Any guesses for our midfield On Sat'day? Acuna and???

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

0-1 is a pretty good half-time score for us.

Almost men and boys in first half. Gave away far too much possession in the moments we happened to have the ball. Jenas looks a fantastic prospect. Acuna missed an open goal. Funny old game football. Could end up 0-4...but there again, it is the 2nd anniversary of the Greenspun BBS today (see Clarky's thread) and we are only one down....

Liked Bobby's smile during floodlight failure when asked if the delay would be long enough for Bellamy and Dyer to play.

And would love to see what an equaliser would do. Sky half-time analysis has revealed a nailed-on penalty re foul on Solano just before Acuna's miss. Haway!!!!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I'd be thrilled if we can get a draw out of this.

Figrures the one day I'd want to leave early the b*stid phones won't stop ringing. Outta here now, so may be on webcast for the last 10min or so....unless I get caught in traffic. Which would be my luck. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Terry Mac says DEFINITE penalty (Roy Evans agrred!); Xavier almost strangled Solano, just before Acuna 'blew' the ball over the bar :-(

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

We've had a few close chances so it sounds like Liverpool are not impenetrable. So just a bit of luck needed. Might as well give it a go.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Leeds 2-0 Manchester 3-0

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Anyone see the replay of Acunas miss? Xavier brought Nobby down, arm FULLY wrapped round his neck!! We just cant get a grip on the game. Acuna looks much more lively than Speed, Cort + Shearer isnt working at all. Cort off, Robert up front, Bernard left?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Stone cold Bud. He must have had him in a headlock for 4 seconds and when the ball came over towards Solano he pulled him down with the headlock. Un-bloody-believable!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Mancs winning 3 - nowt, so they'll be back on top, we REALLY need to get something out of this match, mebbes, just mebbes....

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

chelsea 3-2

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

That Xavier is a w******r.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Robert has been,well Robert

Jenas has had a far bigger impact in open play

Certainpenalty

but we have been pummelled

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

OK bad miss by Clarence.....but at least he was in the position to miss..He is better than Speed

by the way Evening all

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bollox re Chelsea.

Thing is, it's not so much losing this match. We always lose at Anfield. It's the effect on our confidence of losing successive games. Hurry back Bellers and Kieron. Although not so fast that you knack your knee.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I suppose the only good thing is that Spurs and Villa who we identified early doors in the season as being our chief competitors aren't looking like making much progress on us.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Man Utd 4-0.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Heskey over from 5 yards. Manure 4 up.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

I feel so very sick.

Protecting our GD has to be a priority now.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Murphy 2-0

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Nice 1-2 there, who was it between, Murphy and Dabs., or Murphy and O'B.? :-(

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

F..K.

Cricket scores anyone?

Who was marking the lttle twat?

Allowing for Owen, who always scores against us, this is going to be worse than last year at Anfield when we were playing out fifteenth f....g 11 or something.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Game bloody over.

They have won 6 games at home all season. You could have laid your life savings on them betaing us to make it 7, couldn't you.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Jenas just wide on his left foot

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Laurent Robert is a lazy tosser - at times

When the going has got tough tonight he has neen total shite and given the ball away on numerous occassions far too easily

dont tell me about forward movement and all that - he should bloody well do more

JENAS has give far far more at 19 years of age

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

So what's Bobby going to do?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Cort 2-1

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

bugger he didn't give it. Handball

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

No goal handball. Typical

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Was it really a handball?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Oh well, at least we've scored.

I'm not watching this so I can't comment on Robert but, from comments on here, I'm going to join the critics before much longer. The worst of it is he'll be whining on his site tomorrow about not seeing much of the ball.

Thing is, at 2-1, the match is made for him to do one of the special things we know he can do.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bollox. Bollox. Bollox. # Was it a handball?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

How much longer left?

We don't have anything to change unfortunately.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

So we're really not doing so bad. One definite penalty would have made it 1-1; And disputed goal would have it at 2-2. Another good Jenas run and pass to Acuna. Newcastle corner. Another corner. Another centre. Another corner.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

That's about 8 goals disallowed this season.

I just hope we don't get a penalty. Al would miss the way things are going.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

BTW, while slagging off Robert, Solano doesn't appear to be covering himself in glory.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

it was a handball but it looked at first that he wouldn't give it

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Shearer's not had a shot yet has he,

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Cort not as good as Maradonna

Marradonna got away with it against Bobby Robsons England

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Can we not at least score a goal please? And let's stop Owen from getting one.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Sounds like only Jenas and Given emerge with any credit at all.

The lads have done really well this season but how shite we are without Bellers and Dyer shows that we are basically a one trick pony. I mean our bench is hardly a terrifying prospect.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

It was a definite handball, wor lads din't even complain.

I'd give 3-4 of our players less than 5 out of 10 :-(

Shay's had to save us TOO many times.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bad night all round - all the other games have got the wrong scores for us.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

..and without CL revenue I can hardly see major signings arriving over the summer, still winning all of our remaining games will guarantee CL.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Owen clean through and STOPPED

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Shay saves from owen. Great save they say, and Owen should have scored

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Craig and Dyer certainly have some leverage for a pay rise.

Jesus, I hope one of them is back when we play the likes of Ipswich or our season genuinely could go to rat shit.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Alan Parry is a twat. Sorry folks, I've said it before and I'll say it again. He's a liverpool fan, everybody knows it but does he have to make it so bloody obvious? I've heard more impartial commentators at an international.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Owen off. Only 12 goals in 8 games now.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Is anyone feeling confident about the Cup game on Saturday?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Midfield will be threadbare on Staurday that's for sure

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

How long left?

Well, at least we stopped Owen. Like it made any fecking difference at all.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

3-0 Hamman.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Hamman 3-0 from 25 yards

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

3-0. come on blow the effing whistle, some of our players are totally disgraceful tonight :-(

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Bernard on for Cort

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

No cahnace of 4-3 I suppose?

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

At least now all the delusions of grandeur have been shattered, looking over our shoulders is now a priority.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Our goal difference is nearly half of the others in Top 4 now

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Same f...g score as last season and we are only two players short of our first choice 11. I'm sorry but this is dreadful. I hope the people who were at the game can put on a different spin.

Would be that fecking Jorman, too. B*stard.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Don't bother reading the papers tomorrow

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Can anyone tell me, are there any positives apart from JJ tonight?

Bobby will have his work cut out after tonight.

After losing to Chelsea and Man Utd, we got back together with a Cup game against Crystal Palace. Can anyone see us doing likewise against Arsenal.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

third time lucky Dougal

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Barmby on.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Let's have a goal please.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Thing about the Chelsea and Man Utd games was that we at least scored.

While our defence has obviously been suspect tonight, you have to look at our attacking players as they have apparently done sweet Fanny Adams.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

6 points behind the Manc tw@ts (make that 7 'cos of the goal difference) and 10 'easy' games to come, have we a hope, I doubt it, Manure, Ar$e and L'pool are really hitting top form and they have MASSIVE, quality squads - we just don't have the players on the bench :-(

Still some 6-pointers to come, so we can only hope and pray.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

2215GMT......I rushed home for this?!! *sigh*

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

No team's lost 8 games in a season and still come out Champions yet (though Manchetser might this year). But I doubt we will. Anyway it had better be a different story on Saturday.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

The ray of hope I suppose is that the others have all got to play each other about twice each, so they're going to drop more points, so it gives us a chance to scratch our way back. Got to be positive. Get Dyer back, Bellamy back, Speed back, Cort match fit, er .... Match over 3-0

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Man Utd got beaten 3-1 at Anfield by Liverpool. Leeds got beaten 4-0 at home by Liverpool. So this isn't exactly a disgrace.

What it is is a very clear indication that we have NO strength in depth whatsoever. To be fair, everyone connected with the club has been saying this all season.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

6.20am. here Ciara, and I stayed up all night for this :-(

Howay the Lads! ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Cort looked crocked

Taken off immediatley sfter going down on the left wing prior to their third goal

not looking good

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Night, all.

I'm going to watch ER to see if it'll cheer me up at all.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Well, as I said after Saturday...we now know where our weaknesses are. Just another dose of reality, which isn't a bad thing in our case. We were always going to struggle to beat ARse and Liverpool, so this isn't the worst thing to happen. Hopefully the players don't get too down about these last 2 results. There's still all to play for this season. The title is not out of the question, and a top 4 finish is still very realistic! Howay the lads!

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Also, Ciara, as YBR has been saying, if we had thought we'd get 3 points from the three games, we'd have been made up, so we have achieved that.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Arsenal v Man U, Chelsea v Man U & Liverpool, Leeds v Man U. These are the remaining Top 6 teams. So Manchester have got the most to lose. Liverpool look to have the easiest. Hard to draw any conclusions. But if Manchester manage to do well in those 3 top 6 games, then that will be to our advantage compared to the others. So I think we can still make it into the Champions League.

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

well said Ciara

see you Saturday "We're gona win the cup"

-- Anonymous, March 06, 2002

Don't mind the defeat...but it was a very disappointing performance tonight - in truth we were outclassed by a far superior side. Bobby said he was surprised at how the team played: "We just looked overawed. Half the team were as nervous as kittens - they were clearly better...we've really given a poor performance."
