Switching film mid-roll

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

How do you switch film mid-roll on Elan IIE body? I set the custom function to leave the leader out, noted the number of exposures used, but when I reloaded the film & set the camera to manual exposure with the lens cap on to advance the film to the middle of the roll the shutter would not fire. The camera meter was flashing underexposed? The only way to get the shutter to fire was with a 4 minute exposure? What did I do wrong?

Thanks,

Mitch

I do the following on my Elan and 10s, and this technique should work fine on an Elan II.

Put a lens cap on the lens and cover the viewfinder to be on the safe side. Go to manual mode and dial in the top shutter speed (1/4000 sec I think) and stop down the lens as far as it'll go (f/22 or whatever). Set the lens to MF so it doesn't try to focus manually and click your way through the exposures.

The Elan IIe won't do a 4 minute exposure unless you use bulb. Do you mean "4 seconds" maybe?

Sounds like you left the AF/MF switch on the lens to AF, and the focus mode was on "one shot."

Thank's for the answers. I did mean 4 seconds, the real clue I needed was to switch of the AF. I knew it was something simple, just couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.
