My poor little chicken ,Ramona...

She is limping and very weak, can hardly stand up, and topples to one side. She is about 5 years old, and very noce. You can hold her and pick her up any time. I put here in a pen by herself, with hay, warm water, and feed. Is there anything else I can do? Can I give her anything for pain? I hope she gets better, she is one of my favorites...

I think keeping her comfortable is probably the best you might be able to do. I remember how sad I was when my "little red hen" got that way. She was about five years old also and most of her life followed me around when I was outside.

Melissa we just lost Henny-Penny this last month-----she was old & we would carry her around--& we would carry her to the chicken house at night---one morning hubby found her dead in her nest!! Just make her as comfortable as you can & talk to her as usual & let her know she is loved!

She has eaten a little bread and moved herself all the way to the back of the pen. I hope she recovers, maybe she will do better when it warms up. This cold spell is hard on the older hens I think.

We just lost Henrietta a few days ago. When we moved here we only brought 3 of our chickens with us, they were our originals, 3 White Rocks, over 4 years old. The second night we lost one to dogs. The other two started roosting on the gas grill on the porch, I called them Henrietta and Gert. They just wondered around from the front orch to the back, pecking and fussing with the cats. Henrietta died and Gert looks so lost. She still roosts on the grill and wonders around. Breaks my heart. Chickens are so cool. Have you taken a picutre of her?

About 5:30 pm, she has eaten a little, but she isn't moving around much. She is just sitting there looking around... I am at a loss for what to do, except wait and see...

She is still living. Today I left the door to the pen open and left. When Brady came home he went to check on her and she had managed to get out and move a little ways. She holds her left leg like it is really hurt, and acts a little weak still. I have to set the fodd and water right in front of her and she will eat and drink a little. Today I was sitting up there on a piece of wood, holding the water in front of her. She is so pretty! She is black with dark green tips on her feathers. I am thinking she will live, so I hope her leg heals up.
