EOS 10s - black pictures

I have a Canon EOS 10-S body with an ultrasonic 35-135mm lens and Canon Speedlite 430EZ flash. I have been experiencing a few different problems. At first, a few pictures per roll of film would come out completely black or half the picture was very dark. The shutter was kind of dirty so I had it cleaned. Then the problems got worse, my flash (internal and 430EZ) started working intermittently even if light was low. While on vacation in Florida I took the body into a camera shop to have it checked out and was told that the flash problem was due to a buildup of fluid on the shutter which was keeping the shutter from fully opening. Since the shutter was not opening all the way the flash mechanism was never getting triggered. The repair shop changed some seals and cleaned the body for $115. I thought cool the camera should work good as new so when about my vacation taking 5 rolls of Fuji Sensia 100 and 1 roll of Provia. All the film came back screwed up with the exception of a few pictures per roll.

Has anyone else experienced these types of problems before and know what it takes to fix the problem? ie: cost?

Thanks, Mike

I think the only real fix is a shutter replacement. It was still available for the Elan/100 last Summer, so you might be able to get it replaced. Canon told me it's $150 for a replacement shutter--the value of the camera used--so I cleaned my Elan's shutter with lighter fluid and it has been working fine for the last 6 months. However, I hear cleaning is probably a temporary fix and the sticky goo will return as the shutter bumper (?) continues to melt. You might want to consider a new camera like the Elan 7 or A2 and continue using your lens and flash.

Thanks... one of my friends has an A2 and had the goo on his shutter too... he said that a service cleaning fixed the problem. I had hoped cleaning mine would fix the problem too. The first time I had it cleaned it did work for a little while.
