what harm dripping water on well pump? 2degrees out

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I thought my pipes had already froze when I got up this morning because the pressure tank dropped 10 lbs and didn't go back up. I checked It again a little bit ago and it had gone up 5 lbs. I think that means I am lucky. I don't want to take a chance of letting them freeze as it is not supposed to get above 12 degrees today but I don't want to harm the pump either. In 7 years it has froze once but I don't remember how cold it got that time.

corky, I don't know if this addresses your question or not but I leave a light bulb on hanging right by my pump and pressure tank during cold weather. Our pump and tank are in a building so I just hang one of those mechanic lights by it. Hope all is OK. LQ
