What would be an easy project for beginning crocheter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread

I have been lurking here for a while and really love this forum. I finally got enough nerve up to post. I am just beginning to learn crochet and would like some projects that is easy, quick, and I can complete and feel I accomplished something. Any suggestions?

Hi Sheryl, Well, without knowing what you know about crocheting, it is a bit hard to give patterns. My best guess suggestions would be, a scarf, shawl, afgan/baby blanket, vest, or pillow. Let me know what you are interested in and perhaps I can help a bit more. I have lots of patterns and have been crocheting for about 45 years although I spin and knit more now. Tell me what stitches and techniques you are comfortable with.

Sheryl----how about crocheting on the top of kitchen towels----I always have a few in my sewing bag I carry in the car----they are quick & easy & you can always use them or use them for gifts---it is something--that you can quit & pick up easy!!

I really took a class to learn and the first project was a granny square afghan. The squares were solid color but different colors made the afghan.

I learned how to crochet in October. The first thing I made was a scarf. I used single crochet and put a fringe on. Since then I have made two more double crocheted scarves, two hats, one afghan, and have gotten a good start on another afghan. I think I am hooked!! I would suggesst a scarf. They go fairly fast and seem to me to be a good way to learn a stitch. I was told to not start with a full size afghan because I might get overwhelmed, but a baby afghan might be good. Have fun!
