When processing B&W film the negitives turned purple....What would cause this. All the chemicals where fresh. Thanks.

Let me guess....Tmax?

They didn't turn purple, they were purple to start with. Fix (fresh fixer only) and/or wash for longer and it should go away.

Could also be that you didn't fix them long enough. If it wasn't Tmax, as Bob suggests, but PlusX, TriX, or and Ilford film, and they turned purple slowly as they dried, this indicates inadequate fixing.

Tmax should be fixed for at least 7-8min with fresh developper. If there is a purple glow left, just leave it in longer (also shake at 15-30sec intervals). Once it get to +25% or 50% more time compared to fresh fixer, make new

After fixing T-max the extra time as recommended above, use Hypo clearing agent (or equivalent) to more quickly remove that purple whatever it is in the wash.
