Forum name change?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I love this place, if it goes off line, like the other day, I stew for hours. It is like I am missing part of me. I was raised in the country and like many, I AM NOT A homesteader--but that is where my heart is and will stay. I have spent hours thinking of new names. Countryside has been a big part of my life for many years and I would like to see part of the name stay. What I came up with is HOMESIDE----to me it just seems like a blend of Countryside and Homestead.

I do hope that I didn't break the rules by starting a new thread about the name instead of adding to the thread that was waaaayyyy doowwwnnnn the page.

I just kinda like HOMESIDE, but maybe it has already been taken?

I think that is cool.

Now mind you this is only my opinion but, we have all been here and know what countryside was and would all get it, but someone who is searching for a website/forum about homesteading wouldn't. It sounds too much like a home improvment or landscaping site. Also, if people just try typing in "homesteading" related names to find the site, they won't think of HOMESIDE. Look how long you had to think to come up with it, LOL! Please don't misunderstand, it is a great name, just not one consistant enough with what the forum is about. We need to remember the newbies and the people who left who will be coming back once word gets around that Ken is gone.

Lucy, that was a rude thing to say about Ken. This forum would have been gone a long time ago if not for Ken trying to keep some control here. Dave, who owns Countryside magazine, had final say to the rules of posting here, and both Ken and Dave did a good job of keeping it homestead related. There is no good reason to talk bad about anyone. Remember, the majority of people on this forum never left.

Nothing against Ken or Dave , but people did leave because of some of there rules . It is the truth . It's not up to me to agree or disagree with there reasons for leaving . Hopefully things will be better and no one will feel the need to leave again.

And folks will leave now with these guidelines. So it goes. Everything is change.

I agree. Whatever you call it, keep it going. Count your blessings and appreciate what you have or it might be taken away. We are all contributing to someone when we give our opinions on different subjects. Also, don't forget to subscribe to Countryside Magazine!

Entering laughing..........and that Hank, is the funny comment of all!!!

Oh my gosh, Cindy! I certainly meant no disrespect to Ken nor was it meant to be rude or a slam toward Ken. I know a lot of people had left because of Ken's rule changes and I have seen that some are beginning to come back. I only meant that those who are coming back should be able to find us. You were judging me and I think you were also rude for doing so.

-- Lucy (db0421@yahoo.com), March 01, 2002.

Bonnie, I can tell you were very excited about your idea. I think it is a good one. Sometimes it is hard for people to type a message that comes out reading the way they mean it. And I sometimes read emotions into other people's posts that weren't really what they meant. Please don't let this silence your much-needed voice on the forum! Remember your love of Countryside and continue to express it here! Sincerely,

That's a really good name, Bonnie! I like it!

Unfortunately, it's already taken. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Lucy, it wasn't Ken's rule change, Dave was the guy in charge. Ken was just helping, that's all. Countryside magazine, Dave, is dropping the forum. I'm still gonna side with Ken and Dave, for without them, there'd be no forum to begin with, and Dave just wanted to keep it homestead related like his magazine.
