EOS 1 aperture problems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I just bought a used EOS 1 body. Whenever I put any EOS lens on it, it chooses manual focus and reads "00" for the aperture and will not let me change it either the AF or the aperture. When I press the shutter, it seems to stop mid-shot and says "bc" in the LCD control. It only finishes the shot when I depress the shutter again. When no lens is on the camera, the shutter works fine. There is a E1 booster on the camera and the batteries are fresh. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Try cleaning the lens contacts.

It sounds as though you have one of the following problems: There is some sort of internal electrical problem with the body; The lens contacts on the body are extremely dirty or oxidized; Also, it could be the contacts on all of the lenses, but this is unlikely.

Or an incompatible third-party lens ...

Cleaned the lens contact on the body and the lenses, but no change. All three lenses are Canon-made EOS lens.

Hmmm...Can you either return the body or did it come with any warranty? If you can do either of those, you are in good shape, if not, find an authorized Canon repair facility and get a quote on fifxing the problem, whatever it may be.

EOS 1. Not new. Probably no warranty. If a good whack on the bottom of the camera doesn't make it work, better look for a Canon service center.
