Exposure Reading

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi

I have a very basic question. Should I make sure that the camera is focused on the area of the subject from where I take the reading (spot, partial)? Can I take the reading without even focusing on it, just by pointing on the area?

Thanks!

The camera does not have to be focused on anything for the meter to function correctly. Including the spot/partial meter.

if you use a spot meter you should use it off an object that you want to be rendered as neutral that falls under the same light that your subject is. it's hard to explain. books will help you learn the basics.
