AE lock on EOS A2 body

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi,everybody. Am I missing something, expect too much from this camera or maybe my procedure is wrong. What I’m trying to do is zoom closer (in order to get more precise reading) in one of these creative modes (P, Tv or Av) and take exposure reading (mostly spot but sometimes evaluative) and lock it with AE button. After pressing shuter button halway my camera focuses on a subject I take a reading from which I think is normal. I lock read exposure with AE button and want to zoom back, refocus and recompose my picture to the position I want to take a shot without loosing my pre-metered exposure. The problem I encounter is that when I hold AE button this camera doesn’t allow me to refocus after zooming back and recomposing. Where do I make mistake?

Thanks for any input.

Make sure that CF4 is set to 0. You do not need to hold the button down. Once you've pressed the AE Lock button, a * will appear in the viewfinder, indicating locked exposure. Zoom out, recompose and refocus with the shutter button (making sure that you don't let the metering do its 6 second timeout).

Thanks Isaac My CF4 is set to 0, also my CF13 is set to 1 (metering is only taken as long as the shutter release is pressed half down). Maybe my CF13 is the problem in these procedure?

Thanks

Quite possibly this could be the problem. Try it without CF13.
