Some suggestions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi all,

I have been a regular visitor of this forum. I have benefited a lot from it. But i have faced some difficulties in finding out what I want. According to Bob Atkins suggestion, this forum was categorized in 3+1 form. It would be of more help if the category is topic dependent and not just BODIES, LENSES and SPEEDLITE because these categories are more general that specific. If there are categories METERING, MAINTENANCE and REPAIR (of BODY, LENSES, SPEEDLITE, etc), EQUIPMENTS (buying/selling/upgrading) to NEW/OLD equipments, and if possible depending on camera types, namely, AMATEUR, MID-RANGE, PRO so and so forth, it would be much more useful for all of us. One knows his equipments and whats the problem with it. But then exactly where to find the relavant information is always a problem to everyone. And the same questions is repeated many times, unnecessarily. A much better categorized forum would be very useful to those who to new-comers and the regular users.

Thanks

Sounds like you've given this a lot of thought, Sajeev. I'm anxious to see your site.

Your suggestion of more focused categorization is one that applies to many different areas of information processing: Knowledge management, file archiving etc. Without going into details I'll just note a few things. First, the quality of a very focused categorization depends on the person doing the sorting. Second, the apparent quality of the categorization depends on the researchers ability to understand the sorting mindset of the person doing the sorting. Last, there is the issue of focus in the issues being discussed being wider than the available categories of the system.

Bottomline IMO: This system works just fine with the current categories. Learn how to use google.com effectively and you'll be better off than with more focused categories.
