Film developing problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I have a question, I haven't developed any B&W film for almost three years and I did the other day. The problem is that when it got done the film had those purple areas on it. I have forgotton what that means, but i think it has to do with the fixer. Also, i developed my very first IR roll and it had yellow areas which i think are the IR equivalent of the purple areas. does anybody know what I can do to fix this problem and if I am right about the yellow on the IR film?

Micah:

If you were using a T Max film, it indeed has to do with fixing. Those films usually need about twice as long to fix completely compared to old style films.

Just refix for about 5 minutes more with FRESH fix bath, then wash it well. Most likely that is it. Cheers

... or extend your wash. I find adding five minutes to the wash gets rid of the dye, too, and it won't harm your image like overfixing can. I fix for approximately twice the time a piece of leader of the same film type requires to go clear.
