I am enjoying Warren Calloway's web site on the SCL. In the E8/9 section there is a photo of SCL 524 with a note attached that it is EX-FW&D 9981-A. Possibly I am going brain dead but what was the FW&D?? What did 9981 look like before being painted SCL black?

Fort Worth & Denver, a subsidiary of the Burlington (CB&Q) which numbered its E units in the 99xx series.
