Choose- Me or the Goats!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

I have heard of men who have actually forced their wives or girlfriends to make the choice- "One of us has to go- it's me or the goats!".

Which would you choose? I decided when I was single that I'd never marry a man who didn't love or at least accept the goats- kind of like my children. :)

Hi Rebekah, I guess I am lucky, my DH loves the animals as much as I do, I don't think a man could love his wife much if he gave her that kind of choice. They must be awful insecure.(the men)...We have three dogs, goats, chickens, cats, and want more....The animals make my life so interesting..... I could not marry a man that did not like animals... I would let him go, if he does that, what else will he order in your life, like it or not.....Sad................. Barbara

well, my hubby knows that the goats are my passion.Even so, a few years back we had to make a decision about a job. When it came right down to it, told him if he wanted the job, i would give up my girls --even Suzanna my champion. He was so dumb founded! He didn't take the job.

You have to wonder how any man or woman for that matter can't help but fall in love with goats. But guess there are some who don't. Wow, what a decision. I know the Bible tells to hold to the husband, maybe prayer for this. But still, its so hard to be married to a person who doesn't share the love and then gives a choice. If it were me I'd just keep on with the goats, but I am stubborn.

Maybe talking to him about it and trying to meet in the middle may help. I hate to see you have to go through some pain with this situation, you are a sweet person and have such a lovely herd, actually I think you are on your way to the top with your Alpines.

I wish I could offer a remedy, but you have my thoughts and prayers Rebekah. You have my shoulders any time you need them.

HUGS

Oh Bernice, you are so sweet! :-) I am not having this problem ( it would REALLY be a problem with me!), but I do have friends who have had the question put to them. One gal ended up with the goats, there was probably more to the story than that though. Another gal got rid of the goat, but wouldn't talk to her husband until she could get goats again! It worked, she now has goats, but they have a deal where he does not have to do ANYTHING with the goats, because he hates them. As for me, 'Love me, love my goats!' I cannot imagine life without them, they have changed me a lot in the time I've had them, I would not be the person I am today ithout them! Animals are like that, kids too.

I cannot imagine someone who loves you tremendously (supposedly) asking something like that. Perhaps if there were serious health or financial problems that had to be addressed, but not just out of selfishness or jealousy. I could understand a desire to cut back on the numbers or something like that...it's unthinkable in the context of love to consider that kind of ultimatum without serious extenuating circumstances....:(. Glad I'm single!!!

Definately would choose my man! I love my goats but I've had him for 34 years and I believe I'd miss him. That said, women usualy outlive their men and when he was gone, I'd get some goats!

Are you kidding me?! That's one reason I'm single, because I haven't found anyone as animal nuts as me. Goats versus men - no contest! I can always count on my little nigerians; can you say that for most men?

When Brian and I married five years ago he knew that I wanted kids as soon as possible.Ha Now I have created a monster, he loves the goats as much as I do. I'd hate for HIM to have to choose . I just could not live with a non animal lover, wouldn't work .

Mine is easy, if I don't have my goats than I certainly am not going to live out in the middle of the woods, sell my goats buy me a condo in town! That is never going to happen so me and my goats should live happily ever after :) I do make concessions, course mine is about my health, with asthma I can't show at certain enclosed arena's, have to make enough money off the girls to pay their way, or at least to use my paycheck and the money they make, so I am not spending family money, I am very careful about asking him to do chores, now build fences and the like is expected. He expects kidding season to be hectic (which starts this weekend) but honestly as long as his life is running smoothly, I am free to do whatever I want. I trained him right from the beginning 22 years ago! The hardest thing for me came in the realization that he thinks retirement is working less and piddling around the shop, when I want to show, be a director and hit every convention, nationals and meeting around, once my youngest is settled. I asked him if he wanted to go to Maryland next October, he said yes, that we could go up the coast and stay at bed and breakfasts, I just smiled, not wanting to burst his little romantic bubble, that I wanted to go to Maryland for the ADGA convention and stay in a hotel :) Vicki

DEFINATELY the man! I've had him 24 years this comeing August ( 26 if you count the years we dated) and he gets better every year. The goats make me happy but not a happy as he does. Funny thing is, he is the country boy and I am a city girl. You would think he would be the one who wants all the critters. He likes to make me happy. I don't like diamond amd pearls. I don't want a Caddy. Assorted kids ( two and four legged ) and other critters in the yard. A garden and a porch. That's my idea of living well.

Choose the goats, any man who would give their wife a choice like that ain't worth his salt.

umm, i would go for the goats , i get more from my goats that the hubby , just kidding,

i would chose my hubby, but he would never make me have that kind of decision, cause, it would be a loser decision all around , without my goats i would be a sad and miserable wife, and without me he would have a miserable life
