eversheds offering money?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Repossession : One Thread

my partner has received a letter from eversheds regarding their house that was repossed about a year ago. The letter says that they are holding money for my partner, but that they need proof of address and passport to confirm my partners identity. Can they ask for this information in order to find out where we are to make us pay them back, or will they really be holding money for my partner to collect? are there any hidden catches in this?

Chances are it could be true, the property may have been sold and made profit, hence no shortfall so they need to find a home for the remainder of the money. Personally i would not trust them!

if they sent your other half a letter you would assume that they already knew the address? if in doubt a p o box is a relitivly cheap option and anonimous (sorry cant spell today) and try to find out some more. Or have a representitive act on your behalf a 'Legal Friend' if you like. But I would deffinatly smell a rat.

Hmm. My guess is that there is a shortfall. Be careful...
