It is Thursday again!!!

Well it has been 7 weeks since we started our weigh-ins and healthier eating. Is anyone still with us??? I have lost a total of 12 pounds, which I think is pretty good.

Mostly I have been eating much healthier. I am making lots of smoothie drinks filled with fresh fruits, eating more vegetables, not much meat, and everything whole-grain. I found a line of whole wheat products at Kroger's which has things like macaroni, spaghetti, lasagna, rigatoni, etc... all in whole wheat. I have been using lots of honey instead of sugar, and sugar instead of artificial sweeteners.

I have had hardly any pop, (I think 2 times) and didn't even like it when I did have it. I have had chips once!! That is a big accomplishment for me. I was at our little store one evening and bought one of those little 25 cent bags, and did't even eat it all, they tasted so greasy. I think a lot of it is habit, and what you get used to. So I have kicked the desire for pop, chips, white products, and next I am going to cut down on the salt habit. I don't cook with it, but do put it on my food, like potatoes especially.

Now I do feel much better, more energy, and I think everyone is benefitting from this. Everyone we know has been sick either with bad colds, stomach flu that lasts for 1 whole week, or the regular flu. However NONE of us have been sick at all. Brady even had a person in his class with strep throat, which he usually gets 3-4 times a year, and he didn't get it. So I am very thankful for that.

There are still improvements to make, and much to learn. Eliminating all convenience foods, is a big help to a healthy diet. When I am in the store and am tempted to buy something, I read the label and when I see all of the weird things in it, it makes me a little sick, and I put it back!!!

I'm still here and with it!

And I FINALLY have success...lost two pounds this week. I can't believe it. I think two things have helped--the addition of aerobics to my life (I have "The Firm" videotapes, they are very good), and really watching the refined sugars and carbs. I'm not one of those people who does well on a vegetarian/grains etc. diet. Still doing yoga too--I'll never give that up, I love it too much. Drinking lots of water.

Excellent on the 12 pounds, Melissa. Way to go.

We've never had junk food around the house (can't bring myself to spend money on it) and I've never liked soda. I think I'm just one of those people with a low metabolism and possible insulin issues (both grandparents on my dad's side were diabetics and my grandmother was overweight). I'll see if this approach keeps working. Thank God for chickens (haha), plenty of protein around the house as far as eggs.

Good luck, everyone.

Only lost one pound this week but haven't been as careful either. Back to my shrimp salad!

Melissa, I think 12 pounds over 7 weeks is good!

Melissa I salute you. Cat (pounds) go girl! Lenette..........What time are you serving the shrimp salad??

I show only 1 pound lost in 7 weeks. I actually lost 6 and gained 5 which is even worse. Hoping to push myself into exercising more each week.

I still haven't weighed, but I'm still feeling better! :-) I really do need to start exercising - going for walks or something. Still loving the oatmeal - what great stuff!

I haven't made a real big effort until recently. I'm incorporating a fruit smoothie for breakfast and a veggie or veg/fruit smoothie for supper and eating a normal lunch. Cutting back on munching and drinking my water. Lost a total of 1.5 in the past week doing this.

Still need to find the motivation to start exercising. Once my hubby has the weight set all together, maybe that will be my motivation. Once I start one workout, I like to find variety. Usually its an alternate of Tae Bo and weights.

So there's my first check-in! Congrats on the big loss Melissa - you big loser you! LOL!

PS - Still watching for that sewing book! I'll let you know when it arrives.

Since I don't do scales period, I look for inches gone here and there. I'd say a total of 8 inches so far. I did think I'd get used to all that water by now, but I haven't. I had to cut back to 1/2 gallon, cause I was detoxying faster than I will allow. Way too sick, for too long.(environmental illness) and hardly getting any sleep at all.

Benefits of drinking alll that water; inches lost, clothes fit looser, not even close to being as depressed as I was, more energy, not itching continually, skin looks better(a friend said), Less coughing and drippy nose(except for drywall dust, etc.) Eat less. I don't have this particular problem, but drinking all that water is good if you're constipated. A ig problem for middle aged women.

The problem is I get a lot less sleep, never got a whole lot anyway, cause of getting up every two hour and sometimes every 15-20 min. And when I go some place i have to not drink anything before or during.

But I think the bad outweighs the good.

Cindy:

Why is constipation a problem for middle aged women? I've noticed this is true if I don't drink enough water (I'm 42). Something to do with hormones?
