cilantro

Who keeps or know how to take care of cilantro during the winter months? I have a single plant which I take care like a baby, it is doing alright but its very small. I am just waiting for the good weather to take it out. But I know that some people keep them really well during the winter... Thanks.

Generally cilantro is a seed producing annual. it is the same plant that produces coriander. I've never seen it grown perennially.

I have tried growing in inside and it does okay, but have to replant seeds every spring. I don't know if you could plant it in the fall and then see if it would come up early. I know I overwintered spinach 2 years ago and it was the earliest and best flavored spinach I had ever tasted. I would even catch my 16 year old son "grazing" on it. I was afraid it would all be gone before it was full grown. We however made a BIG MISTAKE and tried to move it into a row in another part of the garden. It never really grew and the flavor went downhill fast. I might try cilantro next fall, because it is one of our favorite.

Down Texas way, about 40 mi. S.E. of dallas, I have three volunteers that have reached approx. 14" as of this typing.. Like everything else on my little non-synthetic chemical patch, I let it go to 'seed'......I haven't had to replant many of my vegs and herbs in more years than I can remember... My neighbors can't get over my "wild" heirloom look-a-likes..
