Not much time to write this before the next magical moment in time -- from a recent e-mail, if you havent already got it:

8:02 pm Feb 20, 2002 translates into 2002-2002-2002,

that means 20 hours, 02 minutes, 20th day of Feb, 2002.

the last symmetry like this occurred 10:01 am , 10th day of January, 1001 and wont happen again -- the clock only goes to 23.59.

what are/were you doing this night? I better go boil water.

Not a lot of time to prep.

-- Oxy (, February 20, 2002.

It will happen again, but probably not in our lifetimes. At time 21:12, December 21, year 2112.

-- Flint (, February 20, 2002.

Good point Flint, but -- uh -- I think the arbitrary symmetry has something to do with zeros -- like 1001 sequence, 2002 sequence, 3003 (well, not on this planet). Of course, if you follow the logic that things proceed according to one's own predisposition, then many magical moments could be arbitrized.

I spent this particular magical moment arguing long distance with my son who more or less echoed your point (My issue was full of holes ... well, zeros at leasr.)

Maybe he got that way because I named him after a derivative of time. It is a good thing I am not a math major; I am not really sure what base I am on. Or in.

-- Oxy (, February 20, 2002.

But how can we grasp this essential moment? Is not time a continuum? Do we not metaphorize time as a river? Can we *stop* time to acknowledge a particular time?

Yet how do we measure time? We count discrete events, do we not? Be they orbits about the sun, risings of the moon, risings of the sun, ticks of a mechanical clock, pulses of an atomic clock, they are all discrete events. If time is a continuum, why do we measure it discretely?

Oh, I know what you say----a sun dial is a continuous clock. But is it, do we not have to divide the continuous arc of the sun's shadow into discrete angles in order to reference it?

Is the universe analog or digital?

My pants are becoming moist!

OMIGOD!! Do I need to get a new computer? How long will the power be out? Olson, got room in your bunker for me? I'll bring my own gun, and shoot anyone who approaches.

Where's my hubcap?

I was at the 7-11 eating some toast. It takes the edge off the dog piss.

That's why my cats kept running from window to door to wondow, room to room when that 70's (80's) show started last night. I thought my open mouthed shock was due to the stupidity of the show-freezing me in time for a while before I gathered my whits and changed over to something else.

I thought the cats were trying to warn of an empending earthquake. Although flying throught the air just to land momentarily, just to fly in another directin is their usual warning of earthquakes. Was there any problem with secondary clocks yesterday?

Yeah, and what is George Bush's favorite book anyways?
