tie blocks to footer

Do you need vertical rebar to tie blocks to the footer.This is just a small cabin,and I just need some help on this.Don

Don,

Probably not. The only way the blocks would be connected to the rebar and footing at all would be if you filled the blocks with concrete. Otherwise the blocks would just have rebar going through the voids.

If you are going to go to the trouble of laying the blocks and then filling them with concrete, why no just go with a poured wall to begin with.

If you have heavy clay type soil I would recommend a poured wall. If you are in sandy soil block will work well as long as the ground is sloped away from the foundation. (It may crack or leak if too much water gets alongside the wall.)

Blocks are much easier to do yourself than poured walls, so take that into consideration also.

Depends on what state your building within, the hurricane affected states are requireing it, Florida especually plus poured cornors with wired together rebar and intermititant spacings also.
