Morning Glory Seeds to Trade

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi Gang! Ken/Chuck, if this isn't cool to do just delete me, I'll understand. I have Morning Glory seeds that I collected from my vines late last fall. They are a MIXTURE of Heavenly Blue, Crimson, Flying Saucers and Pearly Gates and probably some Moon Flower too. They did beautifully last summer (except for the ones my Basset Hound grazed on LOL.) I would love to have some Lavender to grow. I am in zone 4/5 in Michigan. Anyone want to trade? Just email me. Thanks,

I have extra lavender seeds, but no plants yet. I bought it to start some in the window. I will add it to my herb bed this spring. If you want some of the seeds I would love to swap. Your mixture of Morning Glories sounds pretty. We have a basset hound too! Gotta love em! Oh..I also have some seeds from cushaw, butternut, spaghetti squash, and some tomatoes(a huge red called delicious).

Ooh, I'd like to trade, too! I don't think I have any lavender but I have Brandywine tomato seed and an heirloom cherry tomato.

Johna, I'll take a few gourd seeds. Nan, can we work out a trade, too?

Susan, no wonder your dog likes morning glory plants (seeds) as they do tend to set one free into never-never land. Following is a quote from the Encyclopędia Britannica CD of 2000:

Spanish missionaries to Mexico in the 16th century described, primarily in derogatory language, another psychedelic substance, called by the Indians ololiuqui and venerated highly. Ololiuqui has been identified as the seeds of the morning glory, Rivea corymbosa (also called Turbina corymbosa); the name has also come to be applied to another morning glory, Ipomoea tricolor (also called I. rubrocaerulea or I. violacea). Since the active principles are the alkaloids D-lysergic and D-isolysergic acids, their properties are very similar to those of LSD, producing visions and mystical experiences.

Oh...I forgot...if Rosemary checks in on this swap...please know that I could not reply to your swap request because it came back unsendable. Or whatever that word is. Please check your e-mail and get back with me if you are still wanting to swap.

Joe,

That info is true but you might add a warning that they are very dangerous. Anyone ingesting morning glory seeds is likely to wind up in their local ER. I think this falls under the heading of -Don't try this at home!

True Mona. Also, here in several of the southwestern states, they are not legal to sell. (I believe also to have, but not sure of that part.)

You guys are serious? I guess that I am really naive. My hubby always says so anyway.....I know that the Wallyworld in Oklahoma and Arkansas has lots of different kinds of morning glory seeds. Guess us Okies never thought to EAT them...LOL!

Back to the original post.....I would love to swap too. Can you tell us what color the Flying Saucers are? I can guess on the others pretty much. Thanks!

Nan, Here's a pic of a Flying Saucer Morning Glory. Mine had more white, but I have seen them with more blue too. Ya never know till they grow.

I had many wonderful offers, thank you everyone. I did a little researching on the internet regarding Morning Glory seeds and decided I did not want to take any legal risks that may be involved with using the US Mail to send them out. So, sorry, but I have to take back my offer. I apologize and thanks again.
