New Craft - Pergamano

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread

I just thought I would introduce you to a new craft that I am just beginning. It is called Pergamano and it is quite popular in New Zealand, Austrailia and England; however, it is known very little here in the US, but is catching on!

It is a type of paper craft made mostly into stationery, cards, and bookmarks and is the most beautiful thing you ever seen! Kind of like making lace by punching, inking and embossing -- all done on fine vellum parchment paper. Some of the more intense embossing looks just like real battenburg lace. There is also painted lines that looks just like fine embrodiery

It does require special tools, inks and paints. They are difficult to find; however, can be purchased very reliably from several craft internet companies. It is not real expensive to get started (you can get a starter kit for around $20 or so)...really no more so than any other craft and certain MUCH less than scrapebooking (which for me, surprisingly, is turning into my most expensive craft ever!!).

If you would like more info, the sites to buy supplies, or have any questions, let me know I will post more. Here is some examples others have done so you can see what Pergamano looks like:

I sure don't need to start another hobby but I am interested in hearing and seeing more about this new craft.
