Do not know of any very good comprehensive source, but a few pointers below which may help

The "Encyclopedie Art Deco" by Pierre Cabanne by Somogy is in French. It has one photo and several passing references to J M Frank.

Art Deco Interiors by Bayer,and The Encyclopedia of Art Deco by Duncan both have several brief references too. See the bibliography on the Art Deco Ireland Website for more precise references to these books.

So does P Garner "The Encyclopedia of decorative Arts 1880 1940. This is translated from the French and should be easy to find.

Are you still looking for info on Frank? I have a lot of info with regard to his conections with Argentina.Frank lived in Buenos Aires from 1939 till 1942 when he went to New York and where of course he comited suicide. Frank had very strong contacts with the Argentine elite of the 1920s and 30s. He worked on many projects in argentina and was a partner of a company called Comte Ltda with Ignacio Pirovano. They worked on the now legendary hotel LLao Llao near Bariloche , the Kavanagh building ( then the tallest in the World) as well as several residences. If you need more info please contact me. Also the book that is refered to on the net is by Loeopold Diego Sanchez from Editions du Regard 14 Rue du Mail 75002 Paris. Its quite good but lacks info on much of the Argentine part of Franks life and work. Mark Perera.

I am also searching information about Jean-Michel Frank. I am a interior designer and am fascinated with his work. I can't seem to find any books on him in english, and unfortunately I don't speak french (most books on him are in). For Pierre-- I have a book, that you can find on amazon.com, that is about him. The book is entitled J.M. Frank by Francois Baudot, ISBN # 0-7893-0329-9. I also found another book entitle Jean-Michel Frank by Editions du Regaurd, ISBN # 2841050203. There is two more books also I have seen, but not been able to get that are in french. I will find out those names if you would like. I would love to see the documentry when you finish it. I am saddened that there is not much information on him.

Any one interested in Jean Michel Frank is welcome to contact me. I have lived in Bueno Aires Argentina for nearly 15 years and as an English Arts dealer have had the opportunity to acquire a good deal of information related to Jean Michel Frank. Frank had extremely close ties to Argentina and sold pieces to many of the Buenos Aires elite in the 1920s and 30s. Subsequently Frank lived in Buenos Aires from late 1939 till early 1942 when he left on a visit to New York, sadly commiting suicide in this city during his stay.Whilst in Buenos Aires Frank lived in the studio above the Comte Ltda building on Florida and Marcelo T. de Alvear streets. I have conducted interviews with a couple of now very elderly people who worked in the same Comte studios alongside of Frank and have acquired an extensive collection of pieces by Frank, both of French origin ( pieces made by Chanaux) and Argentine pieces ( made by Comte). I have sold pieces to some of the leading dealers in France the Uk. and the USA. Ilook forward to contact with all Frank enthusiasts. Mark H. Perera.
