Canon 50-200 f3.5-4.5 L lens hood

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

According to EOS-magazine this lens uses the ET-62 II lens hood.

It is also possible to use ET-62 or will it not fit?

Thanks for any answer,

Sandra

The hoods are the same size and are interchangeable. When Canon adds "II" or "III" it signifies a minor improvement, normally the addition of flocking on the interior of the hood (rather than flat black paint).

Just for a little more detail, here's how to read the lens hood names for EF lenses, using ET-62 II as an example:

E: EF system (a Canon lens hood that doesn't start with E isn't for EF lenses) T: Telephoto. W is for wide-angle, S for standard (~50mm). 62: size; this seems to be an approximate size in mm II: Minor changes like the flocking mentioned above, or sometimes a slight change to allow a hood to fit over the knurled ring of a polarizer.

If there's a letter (other than a Roman numeral) on the end, that's a different design for a different lens and is not interchangeable, so if there were an ET-62B (I'm just making that up - there may or may not be), it would also be a lens hood for an EF telephoto lens, with about the same diameter, but it would be for a different lens - perhaps a narrower hood for a longer focal length, for example.
