Looking for Tobacco Seed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I live in southwest Missouri and am looking for some tobacco seed to grow in our area. I would like to make tobacco plugs or loose snuff of some kind. Thanks for your help. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, I don't have an answer for you, but when you find one, I'd be interested in knowing. Do you plan to use the tobacco yourself, or do you want to market it? Cheri

I did a search on Tobacco on the Park Seed website and they have 10 different flowering tobacco. Do they all flower? What variety is best for different uses. The site has loads of pictures but you'd probably have to find someone who knows the history of the plant. www.parkseed.com Huge site and you can sign up for a catalog in the mail. Good source. Good luck. Personally, we've given up the nicotine.

Marilyn, I make my own cigarettes. I buy the tubes and I have the little machine that stuffs the tobacco into the tubes. I had once thought of growing tobacco, until I saw what's involved! -G- I'd rather pay the 70/pack!

Anyhoo, here's a few sites that sell tobacco seeds:

Seeds 1

Seeds 2

Seeds 3

Seeds 4

I would also be interested in finding some if any one has any to swap or give away

Horizon Herbs carries an awesome selection of medicinal and culinary herbs. They also carry 6 different varieties of tobacco seed. They list Nicotiana tabacum as a good variety for short or cool growing seasons. Good luck!
