I know that a 3 phase machine will do a better job of welding aluminum sheet metal than a single phase machine, but I need to know the exact reasons why.

Answers

The answer is the speed (current rise time) and amount of heat applied to the weld interface. Aluminum is very conductive and fast rising high amount of current is needed to fuse the parts together.
