Display freezer for meat (at farmers' market)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Ok I need a freezer I can display lamb in at our local farmers market. I priced a used comercial lexan topped version........ I'll survive the shock but my walk in won't cost that much! Anyone ever make a lexan top for a home freezer? I have a 20 cubic footer I can modify. Idea #2 is to make a lexan topped box to fit inside and leave the regular lid open for the 4 or 5 hours of the sale. Is there a trick to keeping the lexan frost free? Is there a better material than lexan?

How about a lexan door setting just below your freezer door. This way you can leaver the freezer door open during the looking period and raise it to get produce. This might be easier than building a lexan box. As to frost control, heard that vinegar will prevent frost build up on windshields up north.

There is this commercial fridge in the coffee shop I eat breakfast each morning. This fridge has a window in each door. Buy one just like it and have a colder unit installed. Would this work? Bill

Try finding a used display case. I have seen these sell dirt cheap, just because there isnt much of a market for them any more.

Where abouts are you located?

I'm in Eastern Ontario, I havn't given up all hope of finding a used version, though I'm thinking I might as well look to convert what i have first
