I have looked in my SAL Griffin book as well as my SAL Calloway book at loco #1416 for stack placement. All my sources show the loco after it was repowered. Do you know the stack configuration on the hood as 'delivered'? The line drawings in the books show a smooth hood (no stacks) but, looking at other VO1000's it appears some had at least 1 stack. I am nonetheless perplexed. Please help.

The photo of VO1000 1402 in Calloway's book has the same type stacks that are on the 1418 and I am willing to bet,they were all the same.

#1418 was a Baldwin DS4-4-1000 vice the VO1000. All the photos I have are since 1963 hence the repowering had already taken place. Any body got a builder's photo per chance? Perhaps one that shows the stack placement.

You are close to being in luck.In the Baldwin book there is a builders photo of the 1418 (only two numbers off)It has four evenly spaced cone shaped stacks,maybe 12" tall 6" dia.Actually they are round at the top and cone shaped below.
