Wobbly goose

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have two emden geese that are about six months old. For about a week now, one of them has been very wobbly on its feet and often falls over onto its back and can't get back up. Its friend alerts us to the problem most times this goose falls over, but we are worried it might fall over near the wading pool and drown. We have taken this goose to the vet, and he said it had a spinal cord injury and would eventually heal. I was just wondering if this was some kind of goose affliction I'm unaware of, as I've never kept geese before these ones, and I'm not too sure about the vet's diagnosis. Has anyone else ever expereinced this with their geese? I would be grateful for any information.

Ferraris, I did see several discussions about this problem in geese(I feel bad for you, I know that hurts to see that happening)on The General Waterfowl Forum, to be found on www.poultryconnection.com What are your geese eating? I think this is serious and you need to talk to the people who have been through this. Good luck that is just the pits. LQ

Diet, Feed a high protein feed 23%at least . Greens seem to help even grass or lettuce. Poor breeders rations are tied in to this end.
