Are you getting your taxes done?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I have been so busy this year. I don't advertise but my business continues to grow. I actually just got my own sent in yesterday!!

I see a lot of people who are confused about the many new laws this year. I hope you are able to find a good preparer. The IRS does have a lot of help on their tele-tax and on-line. So that is a big help.

Well if you haven't started them yet, don't put it of too long!!

Sent mine off Friday. Always such a relief to have it done. If you don't have complicated tax situations, Turbo Tax is the best! It goes through and asks you question by question in plain english and suggests ways of filing and determines what is best. Also has up-to- the-minute updates of any changes. While working on it you just click a button and it downloads any new tax law changes. You might not know this, but IRS does make changes sometimes all through the tax time. Turbo Tax also only costs around $15.

Fought with Lance over them this weekend. He wants to do everything over three times and THEN type up a sheet on the computer with the complete rundown BEFORE he takes it to the accountant. He got mad when I refused to write it out longhand and then type it out on the computer (I went straight to the computer with it - I type faster than I write, I used to be a receptionist/typist)! Oh, well, tough luck, he'll get over it, and I didn't have to write it out yet again!

My appointment is at 1:30 today - this is a new accountant for us, she's going to get a kick out of Lance's stuff - each different category (i.e. farm, Mary Kay, Lawn Care, stocks, etc.) has its own cover sheet with the pertinent documents paper clipped to it! All she will have to do is fill out the forms, basically!

I keep threatening to do it myself - next year I might actually follow through with it!

We haven't started yet, but I'm sure come April 15, we'll get around to it. lol

Christine when people are that organized I usually show them the little hints and tips they need to fill it out themselves the next year. Then if they need help they can call me. I am so busy that losing a few customers is not a problem!

Got mine done and filed with TurboTax last Monday! Already received my state returns, but the federal returns are still "being processed" and I'm getting nervous! I thought the turn-around time for efile processing was only 2-3 days.

Sometimes that happens here too Stan, someone will fill out there own and then I might mention some new tax law and they realize they didn't know about it. Then I file a 1040X (Amended return) and can still get their money back. You can file an amended return up to 3 years after the due date of the return. I am a tax preparer, some of you may not know...
