Thank you Bren. Want some? It's just a little gritty.

I see the pounder next to the pump,,did you just put that in >?

Stan, Last summer. See the Country Singletree Forum for more pictures. I used a post hole digger (by hand, you know the ones you twist into the ground) first to get beyond the turf. Mostly my brother did the pounding and I wore him out. This year I will rig up a pully and add more weight to the post driver and put it deeper. Any volunteers? :) Hope I don't hit clay. But if I do, my brother thinks he has picked out a better spot to try again. The well is in a spring area. It's always wet and the water has finally started to clear of the sand (I checked it in January). The pipe is only about 5 feet down, so I haven't bothered to test it yet...not deep enough (duh!).

5 foot down in this area isnt enough,, 12 - 25 before you hit clear water,, and too make sure you have enough water,, but being next to a spring should be fine. Did you use a well point,, or just the pipe? I need/want to put a hand pump near my garden this year,, was wondering where you got the pipe and point. ILl help ya rig up a pulley,, even have one :),, with alot of rope also can even tie cinder blocks to the handles of the pounder for more weight

Good Buddy Stan, I wrote a nice long informative post in response to yours AND LOST IT. G r r r r r. That wonderful witty reply is now lost to posterity. sigh. How will I ever keep up with Minneasotie Sue's witty repasts? So, here goes again (never give up Sioux) I got the materials from Sorenson's Well and Whatever Else You Need Emporium of Hardware, Advise, More Hardware and Well Supplies. I had shopped around for a few weeks and found that their prices were as good and lots of times better than others. AND they had more to choose from. They are on US10 several miles east of Evart, MI. Nearer to the corner of 66 and 10 and on the south side of the road. Can't miss 'em. They stand all by themselves in the middle of nowhere and it is a big store. Besides that, the store is run by WOMEN. Be careful, you may find your soulmate there! Also, FYI, yes I used a well point. Plus the following: galvanized pipe, couplings, pipe dope, fence post driver, handpump, a couple of pipe wrenchs, driver head and one brother. The brother was the best tool I could have had. Your offer of helpfull materials in the form of a pulley and rope is accepted. Your idea of using cement blocks is great. I was wondering how I was going to add weight without going to a welder. This is going to be FUN. I'll get out the ole tri-pod, fix up some venison stew, mix up some cowboy biscuits, put the beers in the spring to cool and invite the brother to be herd boss, the antique mother to smile at our efforts and you to supervise the whole shenanigans. Whatcha think?

good deal,, does your brother weld? If so,, try to get someone to make a longer driver,,, about 5 footer or so,, that way we have more "swing" with it. Email me direct when the time comes around. I know that place,, its right next to the dairy,, across form the gas station, and kitty corner to the yard sale

Good L--- Stan, you are so funny I wonder if you're serious. We need to talk about sugaring too. I wonder if this weather is going to make it possible this year. I really would like to see someone get some sap from my sugar maples. The brother I mention (Bill) is a hunter and potatoe/tomatoe planter, woodland dreamer and frustrated treefarmer. He is not a welder. He lives in a small town full of old Germans and works for an international corporation for a good salary and pension. Poor boy. Anyway, he trys and I love him dearly. He can fish too. He's my baby brother (as if you couldn't tell). He does drive a real truck tho! He plans to help me put in a culvert so I can get into my building area this spring. Bless his heart. I "dumped" the welder friend when he showed a serious lack of understanding for people of color. Should I have overlooked that fault? NOPE. I'll get out the ole' fence post driver and take it to the hardware store and see if someone will weld 5' onto it. 5 FEET? Did I read you right? Let's boogy!

Oh, I see make it UP TO 5'. Okay, I can understand that since it is already what? about 3'? Just add a little more. duh. I'll get he hang of the man stuff sooner or later.
