In a science format why do people ahve weird habits. What causes weird habits?

I think that weird only applies to one's own individual dictionary. Some of my habits others call weird are perfectly sane and normal to me. And other people's habits when explained to me make perfect sense. An area for extensive debate I guess.

this is a great question, there was a book published on this a few years ago, a kind of pop psychology thing. people who lose their keys all the time actually get a rush, and a lot of attention off the big deal they make of searching for them. people who are always late like to make a big appearance, and they think they're special. people who are always early are afraid of not having enough control of the situation, maybe having to rely on someone telling them about what happened while they were late.there were 101 different things listed in the book i think.... freud also published a book called "the psychopathology of everyday life". it's kind of fun if you want to sit and pick apart every little thing others do so you can feel better about yourself, lol! not to mention addiction, which may be a whole other topic...you can get some really strange insights out of people in recovery groups, probably because they're some of the few people actually reflecting on themselves, as opposed to just looking at their reflection.
