What was the SF&W . and what was it's route?

Hello . This is a last ditch effort in my attempts to track down who my g.parents were , where they came from, and went. My G.father , James Campbell was a railroad man before he died in the 1950s. I was informed that my grandmother probably came from Ludowici , Long Co. , Ga. In info I read about Ludowici a SF&W railroad was mentioned . After my grandparents married they later lived in TN. , where my g.father worked for the railroad. I am wondering if the SF&W had a route from GA. to TN. If it did this could give me a clue as to where to look for James' beginnings . Thanks for taking the time to read this . Eileen

Ms. Elholm -

The SF&W was the Savannah, Florida & Western RR, which was the 1879 reorganization of the Atlantic & Gulf RR under Henry B. Plant. The Original SF&W ran from Savannah to Bainbridge, GA, and Tampa, FL, with a branch from DuPont, GA, to Gainesville, FL. A line was constructed from Waycross, GA, to Jacksonville, FL, in the early 1880's. By the time the SF&W was absorbed into the ACL, along with the rest of the Plant System, it stretched from Charleston, SC (former Charleston & Savannah RR) to Montgomery, AL (former Alabama Midland Ry), Jacksonville, and Tampa, FL.

The SF&W did not operate in the state of Tennessee.

I hope that this helps.
