Thursday Morning check In

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Hi everyone! How did you do this week? Here NO loss, but no gain, stayed the same. I am kind of mad at myself! I know the trouble. I was only able to exercise once this week, and ate way too much crunchy stuff.

Sweets are not my downfall, it is things like popcorn, pretzels, chips, crackers etc... This past week I was doing taxes, which sometimes gives me a headache, which makes me want more crunchy stuff. Now I feel like I need to drink a gallon of water to flush everything out of my system!!!

Well I hope you all have had a better week. Let us know about your progress, and any tips you may have.

I lost two whole pounds this week!!! Drum roll please!! I couldn't believe it when I got on the scales this morning. I have been drinking more water like everyone suggested and doing great on my tread mill plus I'm going to physical therapy for my upper back and get a good upper work out there! Yea, finally some success. Melissa, those stand stills are maddening aren't they? Don't give up, the weight will eventually come off if you stick with it.

I'm still stuck at the same weight as when we started this year. I'm thinking it will get better with the nice weather and all, going outside and picking up the brush from the trees, chasing the kids around the back 40. We got up to 50 yesterday, and supposed to get a repeat of that today.

Instead of a drum roll for me, how about a 4th of July fireworks display?! I actually lost THREE pounds this week, the first I've lost since developing thyroid disease. I don't expect this each week, but am really encouraged to see the needle on the scale go down!

I can live without the crunchies, but have a hard time with the sweets. STill, I'm down 5 pounds since we started:) When I get down another 5(not holding my breath), I'll do a happy dance.

do not have a scale, my jeans are looser since I had the flu. Not a good way to lose !!

Fire works display going up Lenette!! Do you see them? Hope the overcast skies don't obscure your view!!! If I lose 3 # in a week, I expect fireworks too but for now I'll settle for a drum roll!

Good work all, you have renewed my determination!!

The cool part is that one night I splurged and had some popcorn (yes, real butter), and one day dh and I were in town and couldn't get home for lunch so I had a grilled chicken sandwich at Arctic Circle, but still managed to stay within my allowed points on each of those days by adjusting what I ate the rest of the day. Also, I am having some real physical difficulties right now, compounded by a bad fall the other night (don't feed in the dark!) so I am unable to exercise at all, can't even go for a walk. I had figured I would be lucky to lose even one pound in a week.

Some of my favorite treats: a cup of zesty V-8 juice (helps when my food is seeming too "blah"), baby carrots (good to munch on when you're craving some crunch), sugar-free jello with frozen berries added and topped with a dab of lite non-dairy topping (for when everyone else is eating dessert). I changed from coffee with creamer to a vanilla flavored coffee mix which is sugar free and fat free - I actually LIKE it! All of these only count for 2 points or less. Some are 0's.

Will post some more stuff later - gotta go pick up my daughter from work. What are the rest of you eating and snacking on? I think it would help to compare notes.

Lenette, how do you figure out the points system you referred to? Is that the Weight Watchers system? I've heard people say they like it but we don't have WW around our place and I'm to tight to pay for it although they say the money spent is motivation too. This is my first week so will see if I lost next Thursday.

Nancy, yes it is Weight Watcher's that I'm doing. I posted on another thread about it. Being the tightwad that I am, I am doing the economy version. I had a couple friends who are doing well losing weight on this WW's program, and it cost them each about $120 for 10 weeks, and that was without the joining fee! They explained to me what they were doing so I went to the thrift store and found the WW's Food Companion book with the Points Finder for a whole 10 cents.

I am not into joining these diet type clubs, especially the ones that make you buy their (expensive) food. Nor can I stick to the ones that tell you exactly what you must eat every meal. I've tried devising my own diets, and tried calorie counting etc., with no success. I have always been a slender person until I developed thyroid disease several years ago and since then no diet or exercise program, no matter how severe, has enabled me to drop a single pound. So I am quite excited that simply following this Food Companion booklet has resulted in the loss of 3 pounds in a week. As I said, I don't expect to do this well every week, but if I can lose 4-5 pounds a month I will be very happy. I would really like to exercise but that is just impossible for me physically right now. The only exercise I get is light housework, looking after my granddaughter and struggling through farm chores each day.

The thing I like best about this "diet" is that it allows me to pick and choose what I eat rather than be restricted to some plan. You're allowed a certain number of points each day and you make the food you eat (type and amount) fit within the allowed points. I am not really eating less, just different. I am eating much healthier, and find I am also using a lot less salt. I see this as something I will be able to stick with as nothing is "forbidden". On the day I had popcorn, I had oatmeal for breakfast, broiled halibut and a large salad for lunch (skipped the starches at lunch time) and snacked on vegie sticks, fruit and popcorn for "dinner". I really haven't been hungry and I don't feel deprived of my favorite foods. In fact, I'm not as tired, so have given up my colas entirely. (I found I was using them as a pick-me-up in the afternoons.)

I was so relieved to find out I didn't gain any more weight this week. Of course I never lost any, but at least no gain. I'm still down 5 lbs. from christmas, ( I can actually get my wedding ring off now.) It makes me fell good to come here and see how well some of you are doing.
