bracket questions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Maybe someone has already answered this in a previous questin but I couldn't find it. I have an elan 7e and a 420EX Speedlight. My question is what is the best (or at least most economical) bracket for this combo? I can't tell just by shopping around and I'm sick of salesmen (although I am one)!

The Stroboframe Quick Flip 350 is a pretty cheap barebones flash bracket.

I use the Stroboframe Camera Flip for my EOS 3 or Elan 7E with a 550EX and I like it very much. It allows you to leave the flash and bracket position fixed, while you rotate the camera in place below the flash if you want to change camera orientation. With the quick Flip, you flip the top portion of the bracket on a hinge 180 degrees and change the orientation of the bracket to accomplish this. The lens to flash distance of the two are about the same, but the Camera flip costs about $13 more at B&H.

I have the Stroboframe Camera flip bracket and find it execellent. Iuse it for doing weddings and I find that it drops the shadows nicely behind the subjects. It is a little cumbersome looking until you get used to it though. My friend has the smaller bracket from Stroboframe ( quick flip I think,it's mentioned above ) and finds that work great as well. It's a little cheaper, and more compact. If I was to get another, I make it that one.
