Homemade Ranch dressing?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone make their own Ranch salad dressing? I searched through the archives, but couldn't find anything. Also checked www.topsecretrecipes.com but they only had a recipe for extending a package of Ranch dressing 3x, which is better than nothing, but would like to eliminate any MSG or other additives from our diet. Thank you. Marie

I'll dig out my Tightwad Gazette Book as I think there is a recipe in that book. However, I am in the process of unpacking as we just moved so it might be a bit before I get it to you!!!

You might try this recipe:

Creamy Ranch-Style Dressing 2/3 cup cottage cheese or 2/3 cup of mayonnaise 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 large clove garlic 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves Combine all ingredients in blender; cover and process until smooth. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.

I also make my own dressings, but as already mentioned, my stuff is packed..LOL.. but I get my recipe from an old ( 1977 ) Betty Crocker cookbook. It is really easy and very tasty. Especially with the baby greens, endive, escrole, raddichio, spinach and a little romain. EXCELLENT!!

I've tried the Tightwad Gazette ecipe (my book is loaned out) but I found using buttermilk fresh garlic and adding a pinch and a dash worked best for me. I have no recipe-sorry.

I just like to mix mayo and yogurt until you have a nice consistency, maybe adding a little liquid if the yogurt is real thick, and crushing in a little garlic, some dill weed and salt, and maybe a touch of pepper... I do it different each time but that's the basics.
