sth about EOS-3 and 550ex

Heard the following about EOS-3 with 550ex: 1)the second blade of the shutter does not juice battery during long time exposure,really? any other EOS has similar feature? 2)the 550ex emits strobes of light when the DOF button is pressed,why and for what?

"Does not juice battery"? What do you mean by this? Do you mean "does not draw power"? If so, yes - the EOS 3 and 1v shutters are designed to draw minimal power during long exposures.

On the other hand, the EOS 6xx series cameras and the 10/10s draw no power at all during exposure. All other EOS cameras draw considerable power to keep the shutter open.

This is a feature called modelling flash.
