A friend of mine found a set of 6 pt. antlers in the woods and would like to mount them herself. I seem to remember CS havng an article on how to do it but can't find the article. Does anyone know how this would be done? Thanks Gloria

are the horns loose or still atached to the skull?

if she found them in the woods,, I would presume they were shed,, so just screw them to a board,, fill some padding around it and cover with some leather or felt. The ones I fond,, I drill a hoel in the ends,, and use a peice of leather to ie them together,, let them hang from a hook

They are loose. Gloria

There are other things you may want to do with them also. Such as making cabinet door handles, knife handles, slice them up and use for buttons, etc.

I mounted my hubby's antlers flat on a 1" cross section of a tree that I stained and sealed. They are really curved(8 pt) and show up nicely mounted flat. They were hard to drill though. It was worth the aggrevation(sp?) seeing how surprised he was at Christmas.

You can buy a mounting board at your local sporting goods with all the materials except the screws to mount them to the board. Being separate from the skull you will need to figure out a way to screw them on maybe drill a hole thr each and screw on or screw on from the back. Good luck!
